Restricted Weed<br />
Fennel<br />
Description: An erect herb, 1.5-2.5 m tall.<br />
flowers: Branching from the top of the stem in groups of<br />
15 to 20. Flowers are 2 to 3 mm in diameter and yellow in<br />
colour. Appearing in Summer.<br />
leaves: Stringy and up to 45 cm long. The leaves have a very<br />
strong aniseed scent when crushed. Often formed at the base<br />
of the plant and break down as the plant becomes mature.<br />
stems: Smooth with faint ridges and heavily branched with a<br />
number of stems emerging from the crown. The stem is also<br />
filled with spongy white pith.<br />
Note: Spread easily by soil disturbance through movement of<br />
bulbs. Usually found in moist places (e.g. roadsides, channel<br />
banks and depressions).<br />
similar Native species: Unlikely to be confused with native<br />
species.<br />
