a) Achieving sustainability <strong>of</strong> the energy matrix, developing<br />
environmentally appropriate technologies that ensure long-term livelihoods to<br />
farmers <strong>and</strong> farm workers participating in agroenergy projects, with pr<strong>of</strong>itability<br />
rates that ensure competitiveness in the energy market, <strong>and</strong> helping fulfill the<br />
country's commitments in international arenas.<br />
b) Accomplishing energy self-sufficiency <strong>and</strong> sustainability at the<br />
community level, herein understood as the development <strong>of</strong> sustainable<br />
technologies that enable isolated communities, individual farmers, farmer<br />
cooperatives or associations, <strong>and</strong> l<strong>and</strong> reform settlements to generate energy<br />
to meet their needs independent from external commercial sources.<br />
c) Generating jobs <strong>and</strong> income, a way to add momentum to the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> the hinterl<strong>and</strong>s, reduce regional disparities <strong>and</strong> help fix rural<br />
populations in their habit, particularly by adding value to the production chain<br />
<strong>and</strong> integrating the various dimensions <strong>of</strong> agribusiness.<br />
d) Enhancing the use <strong>of</strong> areas affected by anthropic action, maximizing<br />
the sustainability <strong>of</strong> production systems, discouraging unjustified expansions<br />
<strong>of</strong> the agricultural frontier <strong>and</strong> preventing encroachment upon sensitive or<br />
protected systems.<br />
e) Achieving <strong>and</strong> maintaining leadership in the international bioenergy<br />
market.<br />
f) Supporting the design <strong>of</strong> Brazilian public policies <strong>and</strong> providing input<br />
to Brazilian <strong>of</strong>ficials in international negotiations involving topics such as<br />
energy, the environment <strong>and</strong> global climate changes.<br />
g) Attaining sustainability, competitiveness <strong>and</strong> the rational use <strong>of</strong> energy<br />
in the national agribusiness chains <strong>and</strong> maximizing the use <strong>of</strong> the production<br />
factors.<br />
h) Eliminating health risks to agribusiness through the formulation <strong>of</strong><br />
solutions that integrate agroenergy generation.<br />
Strategy <strong>and</strong> program proposal<br />
The strategy <strong>of</strong> the program calls for:<br />
Integrating efforts, valuing Brazilian talents <strong>and</strong> skills, taking<br />
advantage <strong>of</strong> strategic associations with international scientists <strong>and</strong><br />
keeping all actions focused on the development <strong>of</strong> the agroenergy<br />
production chains.<br />
