As in Africa, the Pliocene drought might well have forced Sivapithecus to the water’s edge as an aquatic wading ape-man that we might call Estuary-man. Similarly, the hairy Orangutan became the aquatic Orangutan. As with Ramapithecus, the females of both the Sivapithecus hominoids and the Orangutans became non-estrus due to their aquatic environment. Another result of the supposed aquatic phase in man's development was that man's pheromones largely disappeared.
