and
finding other information
It remains the author’s desire
that the information in this revised edition of this book
be used or copied wherever appropriate
to increase interest in, knowledge of, and pride in
food production in the tropics,
especially Papua New Guinea.
There are another 600 minor edible plants in Papua New Guinea that are not included in this
book. For information about them you will need to look at the FPI Food Plants of Papua New
Guinea database. This database also lists all the alternate scientific names and many other local
language names and has coloured photographs and references for where to find other
information. For the other thousands of edible plants, many of which are suitable for the tropics,
including Papua New Guinea, you will need to look in the FPI Edible Plants of the World
database. (FPI is an abbreviation for Food Plants International).
If you want additional information of the insects and diseases mentioned in this book you will
need to look at the books, “Insect Pests of Food Plants of Papua New Guinea” and “Diseases
of Food Plants of Papua New Guinea.” These are available as pdf books which can be read on
computer. (Or printed out). These will explain how to find out about the insect or disease you
want. The Insect Pests of Food Plants of Papua New Guinea database has coloured photos.
It would be appreciated if prior permission were sought before any commercial reproduction of
the information was undertaken. Otherwise, if you find electronic copies you can copy and
