is an activity that is performed primarily for its own sake, for the<br />

pleasure derived from the giving, or the passion expressed in the<br />

activity itself (see sidebar).<br />

Many signs point to the idea that a 'job' for everybody, which<br />

became prevalent only during the Industrial Age, may be dying with<br />

that age.<br />

A lucky minority has jobs, which are also their work. Successful<br />

artists always combined the two. Similarly, the real geniuses in any<br />

field whether it is in business or healing, the military, education,<br />

academics or politics - always 'followed their bliss', as Joseph<br />

Campbell put it so eloquently. However, these cases still remain<br />

exceptions to the rule.<br />

Would you continue doing what you are doing if you had all the<br />

money you would ever need? If the answer is yes, you are among the<br />

fortunate ones whose work and job coincide. What is the percentage<br />

of people you know who would continue their job, if they didn't need<br />

the money?<br />

Anything that may help people enjoy what they are doing should<br />

be welcome. As a Chinese proverb puts it:<br />

The connection to public health<br />

If a person has joy in what he does<br />

There will be harmony in the work<br />

If there is harmony in the work<br />

There will be order in the nation<br />

If there is order in the nation<br />

There will be peace in the world.
