imbalances of the current system without revolutions or violence.<br />

Even more important, these new complementary currencies,<br />

operating in conjunction with the dominant national money system,<br />

create new wealth, both financial and social. It is no coincidence that<br />

these new currencies typically do not share any of the four obvious<br />

characteristics of the national currencies described above. For<br />

instance, they specifically do not involve interest.<br />

It is worth remembering what John F. Kennedy remarked: 'Those<br />

who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent<br />

revolution inevitable.'<br />

In less than two decades, what Daniel Bell originally called the<br />

Post- Industrial Society is now commonly referred to as the<br />

Information, Knowledge or Communications Age. As information<br />

becomes our critical resource, there are sweeping implications not<br />

only for our economy, but also for the very fabric of our society.<br />

We saw that our oldest information systems are money systems<br />

(chapter 1) remember, even writing was initially invented to record
