1997 Americ<strong>an</strong> Tour de Sol<br />

Results <strong>an</strong>d Preparation Notes<br />

The 1997 ATdS beg<strong>an</strong> on May 19 in Waterbury, CT <strong>an</strong>d finished in Portl<strong>an</strong>d, ME. The electric<br />

production vehicle won several competitive categories. The route traveled north to White River<br />

Junction, Vermont; then e<strong>as</strong>t through the K<strong>an</strong>camagus Highway in the White Mountains <strong>of</strong> New<br />

Hampshire; <strong>an</strong>d, on to Portl<strong>an</strong>d. The vehicle w<strong>as</strong> driven 490.4 miles, <strong>an</strong>d the five-day course<br />

included hilly <strong>an</strong>d mountainous terrain with grades <strong>as</strong> steep <strong>as</strong> 19%.<br />

On a single charge with the 85 Amp-Hour batteries, the car w<strong>as</strong> driven 104.1 miles in hilly <strong>an</strong>d<br />

mountainous terrain, with course elevations r<strong>an</strong>ged from 400 ft to 1,900 ft above me<strong>an</strong> sea level.<br />
