BOOK ONE — INTRODUCTION<br />
our ruined world to its inevitable destruction. This manuscript, entitled <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Protocols</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Zion</strong>, I transmit to all those who will to hear, to see, and<br />
comprehend.” 13/<br />
Also in his 1905 edition <strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> Great in <strong>the</strong> Small, Nilus writes:<br />
In 1901, when I came into possession <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> manuscript, it was like <strong>the</strong> miracle <strong>of</strong><br />
a blind man seeing again. <strong>The</strong> manuscript was titled <strong>The</strong> <strong>Protocols</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elders</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Zion</strong>, and I received it from <strong>the</strong> late leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tchernigov nobility,<br />
Alexander Nikolaievich Sukhotin. He related to me that he had obtained it from a<br />
lady, an expatriate. He told me her name, but I have forgotten it 14/ ...He said that<br />
this lady had received <strong>the</strong> manuscript in a somewhat mysterious way, by <strong>the</strong>ft, I<br />
believe...When I became acquainted with <strong>the</strong> contents <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> manuscript, I was<br />
convinced that its horrible cruelty, its implacable truthfulness, bore witness to its<br />
true origins — <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Zion</strong>. 15/<br />
From Nilus’ 1911 edition, two quotes:<br />
In 1901 a now deceased acquaintance....<br />
<strong>The</strong> educated non-Jewish reader will see in his daily life and in <strong>the</strong> lightning-like<br />
events that have struck Russia and all <strong>of</strong> Europe a fullness <strong>of</strong> evidence for <strong>the</strong><br />
au<strong>the</strong>nticity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Protocols</strong>. Whoever can think logically will soon be<br />
convinced <strong>of</strong> its genuineness. 16/<br />
In <strong>the</strong> 1917 edition <strong>of</strong> his <strong>The</strong> <strong>Protocols</strong>, Nilus says:<br />
My book with all <strong>the</strong> <strong>Protocols</strong> is now appearing in its fourth edition, but now for<br />
<strong>the</strong> first time I have learned from authoritative Jewish sources that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Protocols</strong><br />
is nothing but <strong>the</strong> strategic plan <strong>of</strong> world conquest whereby <strong>the</strong> world will be<br />
brought under Israel’s yoke, <strong>the</strong> enemy <strong>of</strong> God. <strong>The</strong> plan, worked out by leaders<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Jewish people during <strong>the</strong> many centuries <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Diaspora, was finally<br />
disclosed to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Elders</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prince <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Exile, <strong>The</strong>odor Herzl, at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
first <strong>Zion</strong>ist Congress in Basel [held in August, 1897]. 17/<br />

A CONTACT-SOURCE’S NAME FORGOTTEN. For a matter this important — or<br />
unimportant, <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> a contact person would be best forgotten, to protect <strong>the</strong>m. That is an<br />
age-old strategic ploy, more effective than any “federal witness protection program.” (Ed.).<br />
