ANNUAL REPORT<br />

BUILDING INSPECTION DEPARTMENT<br />

The Building Inspection Department is staffed by three full-time employees;<br />

an inspector, an assistant inspector and a secretary. In October <strong>the</strong><br />

Board <strong>of</strong> Selectmen appointed <strong>the</strong> Building Inspector and <strong>the</strong> Assistant<br />

Building Inspector as <strong>the</strong> Health Officer and Assistant Health Officer to<br />

replace <strong>Town</strong> Manager Philip Richards in that position.<br />

During 1991, 1069 permits were issued, with a construction value <strong>of</strong><br />

$9,409,837, producing $47,357 in fees. The number <strong>of</strong> permits increased<br />

5% but <strong>the</strong> value <strong>of</strong> construction and fees decreased 7% and 10%,<br />

respectively, from last year's figures. Permits for new residential construction<br />

increased 8%, with 37 new dwelling units being added. 2402 building<br />

and zoning inspections were made, 1 1 6 building and 34 zoning violations<br />

were discovered, and 1 1 9 complaints were received and investigated.<br />

Three health inspections were made, along with five inspections for <strong>the</strong><br />

conversion <strong>of</strong> seasonal units to year-round use, but no certificates for<br />

conversion were issued. «<br />
