Article I.
FELLOWSHIP
Fellowship in the Academy (hereafter Fellowship) is limited to persons who fall
within the following classes as defined in 1.2:
(1) Fellow;
(2) Judicial Fellow;
(3) Non-Practicing Fellow; and
(4) Associate Fellow
Fellows in all classes must be and remain in good standing in their own
jurisdiction and with any international professional organisation of which they are
members.
Fellows in all classes must demonstrate an active interest and competence in
matrimonial law as evidenced by the fulfilment of criteria and standards
established from time to time by the Board of Admissions of the Academy
(hereafter Board of Admissions) and the Board of the Academy (hereafter
Board).
A Fellow is one who is at the time of admission and who at the time of renewal
of annual membership remains, in full time legal practice, a significant part of
whose work is matrimonial law, including an international component.
A Judicial Fellow is a former Fellow of the Academy who is no longer practicing
law because of an appointment to the judiciary.
A Non-Practicing Fellow is a former Fellow of the Academy who is no longer
practicing law and is not a Judicial Fellow.
An Associate Fellow is a lawyer by education or professional qualification who
does not practice matrimonial law but who has made and is making a major
contribution to international matrimonial law.
The terms ‘in full time legal practice’ and ‘a significant part of which is
matrimonial law, including an international component’ shall be defined by
standards established from time to time by the Board of Admissions and the
Board.
Hereafter the terms ‘Fellow’ and ‘Fellows’ refer to all classes of Fellow.
Admission as a Fellow shall be by invitation only.
