10.4 CRITERIA FOR NOMINATION<br />

Generally, the Nominating Committee shall select those whom it determines are the<br />

most able Fellows available for service to the <strong>Academy</strong>, consistent with an attempt to<br />

attain wide representation and participation.<br />

10.5 NOMINATIONS BY PETITION<br />

Additional nominations for any position to be filled by election may be made at<br />

any time after June 16 by petition which is signed by not less than twenty<br />

Fellows.<br />

The petition shall:<br />

(1) state that the Fellow nominated has consented to the nomination; and<br />

(2) be sent to the President so that it is received not less than forty-five<br />

days before the annual meeting.<br />

The President shall immediately advise the Nominating Committee, the other<br />

candidates and the Board <strong>of</strong> all nominations made by petition.<br />

The Secretary shall, before the annual meeting, publish a notice <strong>of</strong> all contested<br />

elections on the website, giving each candidate’s name and address, with a brief<br />

statement <strong>of</strong> the candidate’s activities in the <strong>Academy</strong> and, generally, in the<br />

legal pr<strong>of</strong>essions. The notice shall also be sent to each Fellow, by whatever<br />

method is considered suitable, which may include e-mail, not later than thirty<br />

days before the annual meeting.<br />

11.1 PRESIDENT-ELECT<br />

SUCCESSION OF OFFICERS AND VACANCIES<br />

Unless the President-Elect resigns or becomes disqualified or disabled from acting,<br />

the President- Elect shall begin to serve upon the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the annual meeting<br />

during which the President-Elect shall have been elected, serve for a term <strong>of</strong> two<br />

years and thereupon shall automatically become the President and is not again<br />

eligible for either <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

11.2 FILLING VACANCIES OF OFFICERS AND GOVERNORS-AT-LARGE<br />

At any meeting, the Board may fill vacancies which have occurred as a result <strong>of</strong><br />

election to another position, death, disqualification, disability, absence or resignation,<br />

whether among the Governors-at-Large or in the <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> President (if there is no<br />

President-Elect to assume the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> President pursuant to 6.3 d (1)), President-<br />

Elect, Vice-President, Secretary or Treasurer. Officers so elected shall serve<br />

immediately upon election until the conclusion <strong>of</strong> the vacated term <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Governors-at-Large so elected shall serve until the election <strong>of</strong> replacement pursuant<br />

to 3.5 a (2).<br />
