Because of the propensity of younger sons of the nobility and members
of the gentry to join the service as commissioned officers, the ranks
of admiral and general are considered roughly equivalent to the
"Aristocratic" heading.
Together these categories comprise 389
individuals or jut over 10 percent of all officers on the Roll. Below
the rank of admiral and general, the armed forces provided 240 officers
of 6.3 percent of the total.
