The NSW Aboriginal Affairs Department no longer has a discretionary <strong>of</strong> major<br />
grants program. The Commonwealth department website lists one non-recurrent<br />
program, with <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> funding being directed towards Aboriginal health<br />
initiative and o<strong>the</strong>r “s<strong>of</strong>t” projects ra<strong>the</strong>r than infrastructure. Development <strong>of</strong> grant<br />
applications also takes resources and any projects identified should be considered<br />
against all o<strong>the</strong>r projects that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Council</strong> currently is seeking to undertake for <strong>the</strong><br />
community to ensure that resources are first applied to <strong>the</strong> projects where <strong>the</strong><br />
community gains <strong>the</strong> maximum benefit.<br />

2.4.1 Questions on Notice<br />
Questions on Notice shall be included in <strong>the</strong> order <strong>of</strong> business on <strong>the</strong> council <strong>meeting</strong><br />
agenda and shall be provided to <strong>the</strong> general manager by 9.00am one week prior to <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>meeting</strong> for inclusion in <strong>the</strong> <strong>meeting</strong> agenda. (Local)<br />

Where are we at with <strong>the</strong> investigations on <strong>the</strong> work required and costings<br />
to improve <strong>the</strong> South West Rocks sports field lighting?<br />
RESPONSE:<br />
<strong>Council</strong> first considered a Notice <strong>of</strong> Motion at its <strong>meeting</strong> on 17 July <strong>2012</strong> relating<br />
to <strong>the</strong> upgrading <strong>of</strong> lighting at Phillip Drive Sporting Complex, South West Rocks. At<br />
that <strong>meeting</strong>, <strong>Council</strong> resolved for a report to be brought back to <strong>the</strong> next <strong>meeting</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Council</strong> in August <strong>2012</strong> with more detailed information regarding <strong>the</strong> likely costs<br />
and <strong>the</strong> potential sources <strong>of</strong> funding for <strong>the</strong> work.<br />
The matter was reported to <strong>the</strong> following <strong>Council</strong> <strong>meeting</strong> on 21 August <strong>2012</strong><br />
where <strong>Council</strong> resolved to apply to identified grant funding and if successful, utilise<br />
<strong>the</strong> grant funding toge<strong>the</strong>r with applicable Section 94 funds, surplus capital project<br />
funds and contributions from <strong>the</strong> user groups to undertake <strong>the</strong> work. The outcome<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> grant application will not be known for a number <strong>of</strong> months.<br />
