2013 <strong>meeting</strong> be held at Hat Head.<br />

RECOMMENDATION IMPLICATIONS<br />

Environmental: Nil<br />

Policy or Statutory: Section 365 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> LG Act requires <strong>Council</strong> to hold at least 10<br />

<strong>Council</strong> <strong>meeting</strong>s a year, each time in a different month.<br />

Social: Setting dates allows for advertising <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> dates so <strong>the</strong> public can know in<br />

advance when <strong>Council</strong> will be <strong>meeting</strong>. <strong>Council</strong> invites <strong>the</strong> public to attend its<br />

<strong>meeting</strong>s and has taken two <strong>meeting</strong>s each year to village areas.<br />

Economic (Financial): Costs to hold <strong>meeting</strong>s are budgeted for under Goal 5.<br />

Extra staff time is involved in taking <strong>meeting</strong>s to <strong>the</strong> villages.<br />

REPORT DETAILS<br />

<strong>Council</strong>‟s current procedure is that its <strong>ordinary</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>meeting</strong>s be held on <strong>the</strong><br />

third Tuesday <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month commencing at 9.00am. <strong>Council</strong>‟s current procedure<br />

has also been to hold two <strong>meeting</strong>s per year (April and October) in a village area <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> shire. The rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Council</strong> <strong>meeting</strong>s are held at <strong>the</strong> Civic Centre.<br />

Meetings outside Kempsey<br />

<strong>Council</strong>‟s practice since 2009 has been for two <strong>Council</strong> <strong>meeting</strong>s each year to be<br />

taken to <strong>the</strong> village areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Shire, usually held in <strong>the</strong> community halls. So far<br />

<strong>meeting</strong>s have been held in Stuarts Point, Bellbrook, South West Rocks, Crescent<br />

Head, Willawarrin, Gladstone and Kundabung. April and October were selected to<br />

avoid temperature extremes <strong>of</strong> winter and summer. A village was not selected for<br />

<strong>the</strong> October <strong>2012</strong> <strong>meeting</strong> as it would be only <strong>the</strong> second <strong>meeting</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> newly<br />

elected <strong>Council</strong>.<br />

O<strong>the</strong>r villages yet to host a council <strong>meeting</strong> are Frederickton, Hat Head and<br />

Smithtown.<br />
