Scholarships For Graduating <strong>Phippsburg</strong> Students<br />
The following list <strong>of</strong> scholarships are awarded each year to residents <strong>of</strong> <strong>Phippsburg</strong> as outlined<br />
in the criteria below.<br />
THE WINSLOW-JOHNSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND - This scholarship was created by<br />
Dorothy Johnson to assist and encourage worthy students <strong>of</strong> <strong>Phippsburg</strong> who seek selfimprovement<br />
through furthering their education beyond high school. This fund is administered<br />
by the Bath Savings Trust Company. Applications are mailed in April to graduating seniors<br />
and past recipients <strong>of</strong> the fund. Applications are also available in MHS career center (room 10).<br />
Recipients can reapply each year they are enrolled in college. Deadline is April 30th, 2013.<br />
PHIPPSBURG PTO SCHOLARSHIP* - Awarded to seniors from <strong>Phippsburg</strong> on the basis <strong>of</strong><br />
need, academic achievement, and who plan on further education in a two or four-year program.<br />
ETTA TAYLOR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP* - Awarded to a <strong>Phippsburg</strong> student who is<br />
continuing his/her education as an education major. This award is based on need and scholastic<br />
ability and given to one who demonstrates a sense <strong>of</strong> achievement, purpose and leadership, both<br />
scholastically and in extracurricular activities.<br />
THE JOY E. SHADE SCHOLARSHIP* - Awarded to a graduating senior from <strong>Phippsburg</strong><br />
who has plans for further education and is worthy <strong>of</strong> such an award.<br />
PHIPPSBURG PTO PRIZE* - Presented to the best all-around graduate <strong>of</strong> Morse High<br />
School as determined by their grade point average from the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Phippsburg</strong>.<br />
THE P. EDWARD DEBERY SCHOLARSHIP** - Given in honor <strong>of</strong> Helen K. Debery to a<br />
graduating senior who plans to attend a post secondary institution. This person must be a resident<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Phippsburg</strong> and seems most likely to promote world peace and social justice.<br />
THE HELEN WALLACE TOTMAN AND THOMAS L. TOTMAN AWARD** - Awarded<br />
to a <strong>Phippsburg</strong> student who exhibits promise, ambition and need and who is going on to<br />
post-secondary education.<br />
RICHARD MILES CUSHMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP*** - Awarded annually to<br />
a graduating senior with preference given to a student from <strong>Phippsburg</strong> who has successfully<br />
completed the drafting course <strong>of</strong> study at the Bath Regional Vocational Center and who plans to<br />
continue his/her education at a two or four year institution <strong>of</strong> higher learning.<br />
MCLANATHAN-PHIPPSBURG FIRE & RESCUE FUND - <strong>Phippsburg</strong> students pursuing<br />
a post-secondary education in either an academic or vocational field <strong>of</strong> study. Preference will be<br />
given to students that will include courses leading to the following: EMT Certification, EMT/<br />
Paramedic Certification, Fire Science Program Certification. This scholarship is administered<br />
by the McLanathan-<strong>Phippsburg</strong> Fire and Rescue, Inc. Applications are available at the guidance<br />
<strong>of</strong>fice. Deadline is May 1st, 2013. The committee selects recipients and notifies them prior<br />
to August 1st <strong>of</strong> the application year.
