Admission Requirements for the<br />

ACCELERATED SECOND DEGREE IN NURSING OPTION<br />

<strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> School of Nursing offers an accelerated program for non-nurses who possess a minimum of<br />

a baccalaureate degree in another discipline. This intense and innovative program is designed specifically for full time,<br />

academically talented students, who are mature critical thinkers and motivated to earn a BS degree in nursing in a<br />

shortened time frame. Students who have a bachelor's degree in another major that are not interested in a full time program<br />

or do not meet the admission requirements are encouraged to meet with the nursing academic advisor and explore their<br />

options in the traditional program.<br />

Admission Requirements:<br />

The successful applicant will:<br />

1. have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in any major from an accredited institution.<br />

2. have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 from prior baccalaureate and/or graduate program.<br />

3. have a minimum grade of “C” or better in all prerequisite courses.<br />

4. provide an essay outlining personal goals and objectives.<br />

Entrance Requirements:<br />

1. Complete all OSHA requirements prior to enrollment.<br />

2. Meet with the nursing academic advisor.<br />

Human Anatomy and Physiology*<br />

6-8 credit hours (lab recommended)<br />

Microbiology*<br />

4 credit hours (lab recommended)<br />

Computer Information Technology*<br />

3 credit hours<br />

Statistics<br />

3 credit hours<br />

Nutrition<br />

3 credit hours<br />

Growth and Development<br />

3 credit hours<br />

(must be across the entire life span)<br />

English Composition<br />

3 credit hours<br />

Behavioral Sciences<br />

6 credit hours<br />

Humanities<br />

3 credit hours<br />

Note: Sciences (Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology and Computer/Information Technology)<br />

may not be older than 10 years.<br />

Note: Simply meeting the above requirements does not guarantee admission to the Nursing Program. All applicants to<br />

Nursing are reviewed and the best qualified are admitted. Enrollments are limited.<br />
