Analysis of Russian political culture and the Russian political<br />
tradition. History, organization, and functioning of the governmental<br />
apparatus. The role of the social organizations, interest<br />
groups, and elites. Models of the Russian political system.<br />
POL 443 FIELD EXPERIENCE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE.<br />

Requires consent of instructor. May be repeated once for credit<br />
as either POL 443 or SOC 443. Observation and supervised<br />
participation in the criminal justice system. Readings and class<br />
meetings to integrate theory and experience. Intended for students<br />
who plan to become employed in the criminal justice system<br />
upon receiving the bachelor's degree.<br />

May be repeated for credit. Discussion and analysis of representative<br />
works and major schools of political theory which<br />
take a materialistic or naturalistic approach to the description<br />
and evaluation of political phenomena, e.g. the thoughts of<br />
Hobbes, or of Marx, or psychoanalytic theories of politics.<br />
Emphasizes textural analysis and logical structure of the<br />
works examined and considers their applicability to contemporary<br />
political life.<br />
POL 460 JUDICIAL POLITICS<br />

Prerequisite: POL 101<br />
A survey of judicial processes as they operate in America.<br />
Both trial courts and appellate courts will be examined in<br />
light of the procedures with which they operate. The external<br />
social, economic, and political pressures surrounding courts,<br />
and the impact courts have on society will be considered.<br />
POL 461 CONSTITUTIONAL LAW<br />

A survey of selected areas of constitutional law, considering<br />
the political and social influences as well as the doctrinal<br />

An examination of the political problems of natural resource<br />
use and environmental problems in the United States.<br />
Particular consideration is given to the importance of<br />
resources for American society, to control the environment<br />
by the government, and to the legal aspects of public policy.<br />
POL 562 ADMINISTRATIVE LAW AND POLICY MAKING<br />

Prerequisite: POL 101<br />
An examination of policy making procedures in administrative<br />
agencies as established by statute, precedent, and political<br />
considerations. Administrative agencies will be studied<br />
by means of focusing on the political context in which they<br />
must operate. Emphasis will be placed on the political realities<br />
of administrative agency operation.<br />
POL 590 DIRECTED READING IN POLITICAL SCIENCE<br />

May be repeated for credit. A reading course directed by<br />
the instructor in whose particular field of specialization the<br />
content of the reading falls. Approval of each reading project<br />

Introduction to the fundamental principles of psychology,<br />
covering particularly the topics of personality, intelligence,<br />
emotion, attention, perception, learning, memory, and thinking.<br />
PSY 203 INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH<br />
METHODS IN PSYCHOLOGY<br />

Prerequisite: BHS 201 or PSY 500 or STAT 301 and MA 153<br />
The use of scientific methods in psychology. Lecturing<br />
covers principles of collecting and interpreting data, using<br />
examples of research from many areas of psychology. In the<br />
laboratory portion the student uses many different techniques<br />
from various areas of psychology.<br />

Fundamental concepts of test theory, introduction to applied<br />
psychological testing, the scale of data, and the interpretation<br />

This is a variable title seminar focusing on contemporary<br />
issues on political science at the senior level. It is part of<br />
the capstone experience for seniors in the major.<br />
