MGMT 412 MONEY AND CAPITAL MARKETS<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 310 and ECON 252<br />

General subject matter in the financial behavior of households,<br />

corporations, the federal government, and financial<br />

institutions such as commercial banks, savings and loan associations,<br />

life insurance companies, and finance companies.<br />

Emphasis is on interaction of these sectors in the determination<br />

of various interest rates in recent years.<br />

MGMT 416 INFORMATION<br />

SYSTEMS CONTROL AND AUDIT<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 311<br />

The study of information systems (IS) control and audit. IS<br />

auditing assesses whether computer systems safeguard assets,<br />

maintain data integrity and facilitate the implementation of<br />

the goals of the organization. The reason why companies<br />

control and audit computer systems, the nature and purposes<br />

of the information systems audit function and the overall<br />

approach to a systems audit will be studied.<br />

MGMT 421 PROMOTION MANAGEMENT<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324 or MGMT 224<br />

Promotions Management integrates Advertising, Public<br />

Relations and Publicity, Personal Selling and Sales Promotion<br />

as the overall promotional mix. Various communication<br />

methods and tools are treated as variables for use alone or<br />

in combination to communicate attributes of products and<br />

services to the customer.<br />

MGMT 422 INTERNATIONAL MARKETING<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324<br />

This course explores the opportunities in global markets and<br />

examines the challenges of global marketing. Emphasis is<br />

placed on the strategic implications of competition in various<br />

country markets.<br />

MGMT 424 CONSUMER BEHAVIOR<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324 or MGMT 224<br />

An analysis of the environmental, social and psychological<br />

factors which influence an individual's buying decisions. The<br />

course covers how individual consumers are identified, motivated,<br />

and evaluated for use in various marketing activities.<br />

Emphasis is placed on the business approach for identifying<br />

the consumer's decision-making process.<br />

MGMT 425 MARKETING PLANNING AND RESEARCH<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324 or MGMT 225<br />

The management of the marketing research function in<br />

industrial firms. Emphasis on market research and information<br />

systems for planning and control.<br />

MGMT 426 RETAILING<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324 or MGMT 224<br />

Functions of a retail establishment are examined. The topics<br />

covered include retail operations planning; buyer behavior,<br />

store design, location, and layout; organizing and staffing the<br />

retail firm; merchandise management; pricing concepts and<br />

strategies; promotion; credit; financial management; and a<br />

discussion of the future of retailing. Emphasis is given to significant<br />

developments taking place in the major environments<br />

of retailing to include social, economic, technological,<br />

and legal aspects.<br />

MGMT 427 SALES MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 324 or MGMT 224<br />

Organization, management, and operation of the sales force.<br />

Examines the recruitment, selection, and processing of the<br />

sales force; motivation; forecasting; sales department budgeting;<br />

and performance evaluation. Emphasis is given to the<br />

management of an outside sales force and its activities.<br />

MGMT 428 ADVERTISING MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 421<br />

Provides an understanding and evaluation of the advertising<br />

function within the modern business environment. Covers<br />

history; advertising and the promotional mix; the advertising<br />

as a vital communication tool.<br />

MGMT 429 ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 428<br />

Emphasizes the preparation of a complete advertising campaign<br />

for a business or non-profit organization. The student will be<br />

able to integrate marketing research and segmentation, media,<br />

and promotion plans, strategy, creative, and presentation in a<br />

unified campaign to serve a local or national organization.<br />

MGMT 440 MANAGEMENT OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 310<br />

Management and policy topics providing insight on the internal<br />

operating procedures, and problems of financial institutions.<br />

Principles of loan analysis and the role of financial<br />

institutions in the capital markets are studies with an emphasis<br />

on commercial bank management.<br />

MGMT 441 FUTURES AND OPTIONS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 310<br />

Characteristics of futures and options and their relationship to<br />

stocks, bonds, and other financial assets. The determination<br />

of futures and options prices and how they are used for hedging<br />

and immunization purposes.<br />

MGMT 442 PERSONAL FINANCE<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Credit only for ONE of the following: ECON 240, MGMT<br />

240, OR MGMT 442. Lectures and discussion on problems<br />

of managing one's personal finances. Covers budgeting; use<br />

of and cost of credit; life and property insurance; income and<br />

estate taxation; housing; wills, trusts and estate planning;<br />

saving and investments. Not available for credit towards economics<br />

and business economics concentrations.<br />

MGMT 443 FUNDAMENTALS OF INVESTMENTS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 310<br />

Operations of the markets in which securities are traded, and<br />

investment alternatives are studied. Theory and application of<br />

security valuation and portfolio selection techniques are examined<br />

with emphasis upon evaluation of investment performance.<br />

MGMT 448 REAL ESTATE PRINCIPLES<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: MGMT 310<br />

The course focuses on the key aspects of negotiation,<br />

acquisition, and financing of real estate. Other topics include<br />

amortization, renovation, restoration management and<br />

depreciation of real estate assets.<br />
