Students select either the Clinical Nurse Specialist (Adult Health or<br />

Critical Care Nursing) or Family Nurse Practitioner option. Full-time<br />

study requires six semesters; part-time study options are available.<br />

Unconditional Admission Requirements<br />

1. Graduation from an accredited baccalaureate<br />

program in nursing.<br />

2. Evidence of current registered nurse licensure.<br />

3. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.<br />

4. Personal interview with a graduate program<br />

faculty advisor.<br />

5. Basic physical assessment course.<br />

6. Introductory Statistics course (within five years<br />

prior to admission).<br />

7. Criminal background check clearance (Information<br />

about testing to be obtained through School of<br />

Nursing.)<br />

An applicant who does not meet one or more of the<br />

requirements may be considered for conditional<br />

admission status.<br />

Special Graduation Requirements<br />

Final graduation grade point average of a “B” or better on the<br />

approved Plan of Study. Minimum grade of “B” in all core or<br />

specialty required nursing courses.<br />

Family Nurse Practitioner Post-<br />

Master’s Certificate Program<br />

Purpose:<br />

The purpose of the Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate<br />

Program at <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> is to increase the<br />

numbers of family nurse practitioners prepared to provide<br />

primary care. Primary care is currently undergoing a period<br />

of expansion in order to meet the increasing healthcare<br />

needs of our nation’s citizens. The post-master’s certificate<br />

program at <strong>Purdue</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>Calumet</strong> exists to<br />

address the need for increased numbers of primary care<br />

providers. The target audience for this program includes<br />

master's prepared nurses that are interested in becoming<br />

family nurse practitioners.
