OBHR 663 SEMINAR IN ORGANIZATION THEORY<br />

of school. The analysis and design of complex organizations.<br />

Emphasis is placed on current research in organizational theory<br />

and design. Topics include major theoretical perspectives, design<br />

parameters, structural configurations, culture, technology, the<br />

environment, and organizational effectiveness.<br />

OBHR 681 BEHAVIOR IN ORGANIZATIONS<br />

(Class 2 to 4, Cr. 2 to 4)<br />

Individual and group behavior are the central components of<br />

components of the study of behavior in organizations. Focus<br />

is on the managerial application of knowledge to issues such<br />

as motivation, group process, leadership, organizational<br />

design structure, and others. The course employs cases, exercises,<br />

discussions, and lectures.<br />

OLS 332 FUNDAMENTALS OF INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331 or SPV 331<br />

An examination of the industrial hygiene factors instrumental<br />

in maintaining a safe and healthful workplace. Special<br />

emphasis is given to the recognition, evaluation, and control<br />

of occupational health hazards.<br />

OLS 333 SAFETY,HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS,<br />

CODES, REGULATIONS AND STANDARDS<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331 or SPV 331<br />

A study of the various laws, codes, and standards which<br />

affect the safety field. Emphasis is placed on an in-depth<br />

study of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA)<br />

and the applicable standards therein.<br />

(Class 2 to 4, Cr. 2 to 4)<br />

For students in the management graduate program of by consent<br />

of school. Analysis of management theories and the<br />

administrative processes. Specific managerial activities as<br />

they relate to productive efficiency and effectiveness are analyzed.<br />

Management functions of planning, organizing, directing,<br />

controlling, and staffing also are discussed.<br />

This course provides entering first-year students with less<br />

then 60 credits an opportunity to become familiar with available<br />

process, the course management system, engage in goal<br />

setting, align academic and life goals, explore available<br />

career options and develop a plan for success.<br />

This course compares and contrasts several frameworks for<br />

self-management, and provides students with the opportunity<br />

to study these frameworks to achieve success in life, school<br />

OLS 252 HUMAN RELATIONS IN ORGANIZATIONS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Study of the basis and organization of individual and group<br />

behavior. Special emphasis on typical supervisory relationships.<br />

OLS 303 SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN THE WORKPLACE<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Overviews alcohol and drug problems affecting job performance<br />

in the workplace. Topics covered include current concepts<br />

of alcoholism and addictions, supervisor's role and<br />

responsibilities, work behavior of alcohol and drug abusers.<br />

Constructive confrontation and intervention, employee assistance<br />

programming, and referral.<br />

OLS 331 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

A presentation of those aspects of occupational safety and<br />

health which are most essential to the firstline supervisor.<br />

Emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of the<br />

economic, legal, and social factors related to providing a safe<br />

and healthful working environment.<br />

OLS 334 FIRE PROTECTION<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331 or SPV 331<br />

Explores the principles involved in the protection of people<br />

and property from fire and explosion. Basic fire safety terminology,<br />

fire chemistry and extinguishment, fire safety references<br />

and standards, and fire safety management are presented.<br />

Also discussed are control measures for common fire and<br />

explosion hazards and the design of buildings in terms of life<br />

safety and fire supressive systems.<br />

OLS 335 SAFETY AND HEALTH<br />

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331 or SPV 331<br />

An examination of safety management principles employed<br />

to ensure both regulatory compliance and effective loss control<br />

efforts. Emphasis is directed toward coordination of safety<br />

program components with the goals of the organization<br />

and regulatory compliance.<br />

OLS 336 FUNDAMENTALS OF RISK MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331 and OLS 333<br />

Students shall learn five principles disciplines in the process<br />

of controlling or eliminating the risks associated with occupational<br />

injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Those disciplines<br />

are: 1) identifying the exposures to loss; 2) evaluating<br />

alternative techniques for treating the exposure; 3) selecting<br />

the appropriate technique(s); 4) implementing the chosen<br />

technique; and 5) monitoring and improving the risk management<br />

system. The class will take into consideration not only<br />

direct loss/damage to assets such as buildings and machinery,<br />

people and the loss from actions of people, failures, general<br />

liability, fleet liability, asset protection, arrors and omissions<br />

but the indirect loss attributed to the direct loss and issues of<br />

legal liability.<br />

OLS 337 INTRODUCTION TO EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: OLS 331<br />

Students will learn the value of having plans to deal with a<br />

variety of emergencies likely to occur in either industrial or<br />

municipal environments. Students will come to understand<br />

the key concepts of emergency management including mitigation,<br />

preparedness and response and recovery. Each student<br />

will have to prepare an Emergency Response Plan and<br />

present it as part of the course requirements.<br />
