IN CHILD AND FAMILY STUDY<br />

The basic research methods employed in the study of children<br />

and of families are examined. Students are afforded supervised<br />

practice in the application of selected research strategies and<br />

methodologies.<br />

CDFS 657 SOCIAL CONSTRUCTIONIST FAMILY THERAPIES<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Investigation of theory, research, and practice of constructivist<br />

and social constructionist family therapies. Readings include<br />

a wide range of original work by major theorists, such as<br />

White, deShazer, and Anderson & Goolishian.<br />

CDFS 660 FAMILY THERAPY SKILLS<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Training in use of basic family therapy skills. Procedures are<br />

applied in practice groups and analogue situations. a systemic<br />

biopsychosocial view of addictions and of the techniques that<br />

family therapists employ to disrupt patterns within abusing<br />

and addictive family systems.<br />

Investigation of theory, research, and practice of structural<br />

and strategic family therapies. Readings will include a wide<br />

and specialized family therapies. Readings will<br />

Study of the broad scope of human sexual development and<br />

expression. Particular attention devoted to literature on sexual<br />

behavior over the life cycle, alternate forms of sexual expression,<br />

law, ethics, and cross-cultural perspectives.<br />

Examination of the literature, research and theories related to<br />

therapeutic interventions for sexual concerns in relationships.<br />

Particular attention is given to systemic approaches and<br />

to the relationship between marital and sex therapy.<br />

CDFS 675 GENDER AND MULTICULTURAL<br />

PERSPECTIVES IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Increases students’ sensitivity and understanding of how<br />

the social construction of gender and culture impact their<br />

professional development and the process of family therapy.<br />

Scholarly investigation and self-exploration will be integrated<br />

by studying the current literature and by analyzing videotapes<br />

of movie clips, television show, and the therapy sessions.<br />

CDFS 678 FIELD EXPERIENCE IN MARRIAGE<br />

AND FAMILY THERAPY<br />

(Class 0 to 9, Cr. 3 to 9)<br />

Prerequisites: Admission by consent of instructor.<br />

Supervised clinical experience in a community agency working<br />

with a variety of marital and family problems. Depending<br />

on the number of credit hours for which one registered, will<br />

require 8-24 clinic hours and 3-9 experiential hours per<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to doctoral studies or consent of<br />

instructor. Professional issues involved in working with children<br />

and families. Questions of ethics, legal relationships, and<br />

value problems may be pursued, as may such pragmatic<br />

inquiries as the role of professional organizations and labor<br />

unions in these fields.<br />

Theory and practice of land surveying. Fundamentals of<br />

observing distances, elevations, and angles. Analysis of errors<br />

in surveying measurements. Computations of irregular areas.<br />

Circular and parabolic curves. Earth-work estimates.<br />

Computer applications, photogrammetry, geographic information<br />

systems (GIS) and global positioning systems (GPS)<br />

technologies.<br />

CE 273 MECHANICS OF MATERIALS<br />

Analysis of stress and strain, Mohr’s circle, equations of<br />

equilibriums and compatibility; stress-strain laws; extension<br />

torsions, bending and deflection of beams, buckling of<br />

columns, elastic stability and strain energy, Castigliano's<br />

Theorem, pressure vessels, selected topics.<br />

CE 323 SOIL ENGINEERING<br />

Introduction to soil engineering and testing. Identification<br />

and classification tests, soil water systems, settlement principles,<br />

soil stresses, and shear strength testing.<br />
