Opportunity for undergraduate students to investigate particular<br />
problems in the field of education under supervision.<br />
EDFA 491 TOPICS AND ISSUES IN EDUCATION<br />
(Class 1, Cr. 1)<br />
Provides the student with the opportunity to strengthen the<br />
preparation program though the study of selected educational<br />
topics and issues based on individual needs and interests.<br />
One topic is dealt with in each enrollment.<br />
EDFA 500 PHILOSOPHY OF AMERICAN EDUCATION<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Consideration of the major ideas, trends, and movements in<br />
the philosophy of American education. Their significance for<br />
educational objectives, teaching and evaluative methods, and<br />
classroom organization and management is analyzed in depth.<br />

An overview of automated data processing application to<br />
education. Primary emphasis on administrative applications<br />
for pupil, staff, facility, program, and financial accounting.<br />

Administration of education; roles of local, state, and federal<br />
government. Focus on purpose, organization, task areas, and<br />
processes of educational administration.<br />
EDFA 513 EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES PLANNING<br />

Systems approach as a basis for school facilities planning.<br />
Study directed toward procedures for solving facilities problems.<br />
Emphasis on techniques for developing and securing<br />

EDFA 516 SCHOOL-COMMUNITY RELATIONS<br />

This course will stress concepts and principles relevant to<br />
school-community interaction. It will focus on the new roles of<br />
the public in education and will deal with problems encountered<br />
by education in communicating with the public.<br />

Study of role and responsibilities of the secondary school<br />
principalship; focus on organization and administration of<br />
students, staff and educational program; special consideration<br />
devoted to schedule construction, program accounting, and<br />

Study of role and responsibilities of the elementary school<br />
principalship; focus upon leadership functions in staff and<br />
pupil personnel, school and class organization, plant management,<br />
instructional and educational program, and school and<br />

An examination of administrative function, process, structure,<br />
and practice. Special emphasis given to theory development<br />
in administration. Exploration of system analysis applications<br />

EDFA 608 BUSINESS MANAGEMENT IN EDUCATION<br />

Examination of internal and external determinants of school fiscal<br />
policy. Experiences with fiscal procedures for school budgeting<br />
and accounting, including preparation of a school budget.<br />
EDFA 609 LEGAL ASPECTS OF AMERICAN EDUCATION<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Legal foundations of education as established by constitutional<br />
provisions, court decisions, opinions of attorney generals,<br />
administrative rulings and executive directives. Emphasis on<br />
legal theory and principles currently in state of change. Stress<br />
on case study method of investigation into educational law.<br />
EDFA 610 SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTION<br />
AND INSTRUCTIONAL PERSONNEL<br />

Examination of the functions of school administration which<br />
focuses on achievement of instructional expectations of educational<br />
service. Emphasis on developing an individualized<br />
supervisory program for instructional personnel.<br />

Consideration of concerns of experienced educational personnel<br />
related to educational development, technology,<br />
methodology and curriculum. Designed for workshop or<br />
inservice formats. Not available for use in graduate degree<br />
programs.<br />
EDFA 590 INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH PROBLEMS<br />
(Cr. 1 to 6)<br />
Opportunities for students to study particular problems under<br />
the guidance of a member of the staff. This plan of individualized<br />
instruction may be used in any field of education or<br />
vocational education. Does not include thesis work.<br />
EDFA 591 SPECIAL TOPICS IN EDUCATION<br />
(Class 0 to 4, Cr. 1 to 4)<br />
Group study of a current problem or special topic of interest<br />
to professional educational personnel. Intensive study of<br />
research, theory, or practical aspects of a particular issue<br />
within the usual graduate class format.<br />

Provision of a conceptual framework for dealing with school<br />
personnel problems. Emphasis placed on implications of<br />
social change for personnel administration, the nature and<br />
scope of the personnel function, problems created by conflict<br />
between individual needs and organizational demands, and<br />
the strategies and consequences of collective negotiations.<br />

EDFA 694 INTERNSHIP IN EDUCATIONAL<br />
ADMINISTRATION: BUILDING ADMIN<br />
(Class 1 to 3, Cr. 1 to 3)<br />
Amount of credit to be determined by nature and extent of<br />
assignment. Admission by the consent of instructor. Field<br />
Experience in educational administration under university<br />
supervision in selected related school building administration.
