COM 475 ETHNIC IDENTITY IN FILM<br />

Ethnic Identity in Film explores the construction of American<br />

ethnicity in mainstream American films. By examining films<br />

that reflect a particular ethnic sensibility and created by an<br />

individual of that particular ethnicity, this course will explore<br />

values and traditions.<br />

COM 490 INTERNSHIP IN COMMUNICATION<br />

(Class 1 to 6, Lab. 0 to 6, Cr. 1 to 6)<br />

Prerequisite: COM 114<br />

Variable title, variable pattern, variable credit (1-6).<br />

Experiential, supervised training in one of the areas of<br />

specialization in communication. Students will work in an<br />

organization under supervision and are required to devote<br />

to the internship the number of hours per week which the<br />

organization supervisor and academic coordinator have<br />

established. Students will spend a minimum of five hours per<br />

week at the place of the internship. Students will be evaluated<br />

by the organization supervisor and the academic coordinator.<br />

AND CONFERENCE METHODS<br />

Prerequisite: COM 325<br />

Application of modern communication theory to interview situations,<br />

with emphasis upon problems involving superior-subordinate<br />

relations, information-getting, and interpersonal misunderstanding.<br />

Classroom demonstrations based upon real-life cases<br />

supplemented by off-campus interviews; practice in briefing<br />

techniques.<br />

COM 531 SPECIAL TOPICS IN MASS COMMUNICATION<br />

Critical analysis and evaluation of current and continuing<br />

problems in both commercial and public mass communication.
