FM 109 SPINNING<br />

FM 250 PRINCIPLES OF ADULT FITNESS<br />

The purpose of this course is to expose students to the effects<br />

of exercise on health over the life course. The health benefits<br />

of different types of exercise will be reviewed. Students will<br />

have the opportunity to utilize fitness equipment and develop<br />

their own exercise plans. Existing community programs and<br />

resources will be discussed.<br />

FM 268 PHYSIOLOGY OF EXERCISE<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CHM 119 and BIOL 214 Co-requisite: F&N 303<br />

Physiological concepts and principles underlying human<br />

responses and adaptations to exercise. Selected methods and<br />

techniques of assessing physiological function and evaluating<br />

performance in physical efforts in a laboratory setting.<br />

FM 280 PRINCIPLES OF FIRST AID<br />

(Class 1, Lab. 2, Cr. 2)<br />

A course designed to instruct students in the immediate and<br />

temporary care given victims of an accident or illness.<br />

Covers dressings, bandaging, CPR, lacerations, insect and<br />

animal bites and other first aid topics. Certification Included.<br />

wellness strategies, that can be enjoyed throughout life.<br />

FM 219 ISSUES AND PROBLEMS IN HEALTH<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Designed to acquaint students with various aspects of<br />

personal and community health problems. Emphasis will<br />

be on current health issues such as pollution, mental health,<br />

venereal disease, aging, medical care, etc.<br />

FM 300 PRACTICUM IN HEALTH,<br />

FITNESS AND NUTRITION<br />

(Class 1, Lab. 4, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: F&N 303 or FM 315 and FM 268 and limited to students<br />

enrolled in Nutrition, Fitness & Health degree with a classification of 4<br />

or higher.<br />

Clinical field experience of at least 300 hours in an approved<br />

health, fitness, and/or nutrition facility under the direction of a<br />

certified or registered instructor. The on-campus Total Fitness<br />

Center and their degreed/ professional staff is the primary site<br />

for this practicum.<br />

FM 301 RECREATION LEADERSHIP<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Provides instruction in various aspects of recreation.<br />

Community, school, camping, travel and leisure time activities<br />

will be part of the instruction. Identification of the principles<br />

of recreation and the many organizations promoting<br />

recreational activities are included.<br />

FM 302 ANATOMY AND KINESIOLOGY<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: BIOL 213 and BIOL 214<br />

Overview of human body structures and functions appropriate<br />

for exercise science. Emphasis on musculoskeletal and<br />

neuromuscular systems as they relate to human movement.<br />

FM 305 PRACTICUM IN FITNESS MANAGEMENT<br />

(Class 1, Lab. 4, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: FM 300 and FM 410 and FM 474 and limited to students<br />

enrolled in the Fitness Management degree with a classification of 8.<br />

Advanced level clinical field experience in fitness management<br />

facility. At least 300 hours in an approved health and/or<br />

nutrition facility under the direction of a certified or registered<br />

instructor. An off-campus facility or club and their managerial/professional<br />

staff is the primary site for this practicum.<br />

FM 314 BEGINNING CONCEPTS OF GROUP<br />

EXERCISE AND PERSONAL TRAINING<br />

(Class 1, Lab. 2, Cr. 2)<br />

Prerequisite: FM 268 and FM 302<br />

Instruction and laboratory experience in group exercise and<br />

personal training. Designed for Nutrition, Fitness, and Health<br />

majors or Fitness Management majors with an interest in<br />

group exercise and personal training careers. Includes basic<br />

competencies/skills leading to certification as a personal<br />

trainer and/or group exercise instructor.<br />
