CIS 288 LAN TECHNOLOGY<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 230 and CIS 287<br />

This course is an intermediate networking course and local<br />

area networking and design course. This is a laboratory and<br />

lecture course that covers the topics of topologies, networking<br />

protocols, hardware, and software of the local area network.<br />

Students will evaluate networking technologies, design<br />

local area networking solutions, and implement local area<br />

networking solutions.<br />

CIS 290 COMPUTER PROJECT<br />

(Class 0 to 4, Cr. 1 to 4)<br />

Independent study for sophomore students who desire to<br />

execute a computer-oriented project. Course may be repeated<br />

for up to six hours credit.<br />

CIS 301 DATA AND FILE STRUCTURES<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 266<br />

Methods of organizing, linking, and retrieving information<br />

stored in computer memory or auxiliary storage: arrays, lists,<br />

stacks, queues, linked lists, trees. File organization and<br />

access: sequential, random, indexed, linked, inverted, partitioned.<br />

Associated data manipulation algorithms: data entry,<br />

searching, retrieval, sorting; algorithmic analysis. Selected<br />

applications.<br />

CIS 302 INFORMATION SYSTEMS<br />

BUDGETING & PROCUREMENT<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

An introduction to the budgeting and procurement processes<br />

and issues and their impact on business. Course content will<br />

include vendor selection and management costs on IS projects<br />

and planning IS budgets.<br />

CIS 304 ADVANCED COMPUTER UTILIZATION<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 204 and COM 114<br />

This course is a continuation of CIS 204. The objectives of<br />

the course are to teach students how to obtain and analyze<br />

information, apply advanced application skills, research<br />

a topic, generate reports and present the results. These<br />

computer skills are required in many disciplines today.<br />

CIS 310 SERVER ADMINISTRATION<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 288<br />

This course will prepare students for being a network and<br />

server administrator. Specific topics of the course will<br />

include administration of commercial operating systems in a<br />

commercial environment. Students will have practical knowledge<br />

on how to install, configure and implement a server<br />

solution. Students will be exposed to the theory of server<br />

technologies, directory services, and management theory<br />

of server systems.<br />

CIS 312 LEGAL ISSUES IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 255<br />

This course focuses on legal issues surrounding Information<br />

Technologies. Current legal issues in information technology<br />

are addressed including elements of contracting, payment<br />

systems, digital signatures, privacy concerns, intellectual<br />

property, IT torts and criminal liability including hacking,<br />

computer trespass and fraud. Examination of legal issues<br />

including privacy, systems abuse and legal practices in<br />

Information Technology will be explored.<br />

CIS 315 WIRELESS NETWORK TECHNOLOGY<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 288<br />

This course will introduce the fundamentals of wireless<br />

technology with an emphasis on information technology<br />

and implementation issues. Wireless communication theory,<br />

licensing standards, limitations, and emerging technologies<br />

will be explored in depth. This course has an extensive<br />

laboratory component and students will implement several<br />

wireless local area networking technologies.<br />

CIS 323 OBJECT ORIENTED SYSTEMS<br />

ANALYSIS AND DESIGN<br />

(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: ENGL 104<br />

This is an introduction to the object-oriented analysis and<br />

design techniques for systems development. Topics include<br />

problem analysis, data collection techniques, system and<br />

program design techniques.<br />

CIS 341 WEB DEVELOPMENT II<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 241<br />

This course is a continuation of CIS 241. Advanced Web<br />

content generation techniques are covered. Topics include<br />

using advanced multimedia and database and application<br />

integration.<br />

CIS 342 MULTIMEDIA FOR WEB DEVELOPERS<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 241<br />

This course is an introduction to the creation and use of<br />

graphics, animation, video and audio on the Web. Students<br />

will design, create and deploy several instances of graphics<br />

video and audio on a series of Web pages. Topics include<br />

graphics, video and audio file formats, creating multimedia<br />

content, formatting images on Web pages, animation and<br />

video, and the use of graphics for purposes such as buttons<br />

dividers and image maps.<br />

CIS 345 COMPUTER GRAPHICS<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 166 and MA 153<br />

A survey of computer hardware used to make graphic<br />

displays including printers, plotters, and cathode ray tubes.<br />

Programming techniques for plotting lines and special<br />

symbols and the organization and representation of data,<br />

and a survey of applications.<br />

CIS 351 DECISION SUPPORT AND EXPERT SYSTEMS<br />

(Class 2, Cr. 3 or Class 3, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Introduction to techniques employed in supporting decisionmaking<br />

in business, industry and government. Various types<br />

of models are developed and solved using manual and computerized<br />

techniques. Students analyze, prepare a model for,<br />

and develop solutions for selected types of problems.<br />

Decision support software packages may be specified to<br />

implement some solutions. Topics include an overview and<br />

relationship to Artificial Intelligence, project management,<br />

optimization techniques, statistical analysis, graphical analysis,<br />

simulation techniques, building management models, and<br />

presentations of results.<br />

CIS 353 ADVANCED DATABASE PL/SQL PROGRAMMING<br />

(Class 2, Lab. 2, Cr. 3)<br />

Prerequisite: CIS 355<br />

This course is a continuation of CIS 355, Database Implementation.<br />

Advanced techniques of PL/SQL are covered.<br />

Topics include processing statements of PL/SQL blocks,<br />

procedures, functions, packages, dependencies, database triggers,<br />

built-in packages, dynamic SQL and Object Technology<br />

and code tuning. Students acquire advanced skills in a practice<br />

environment reinforcing concepts and techniques of<br />

PL/SQL programming.<br />
