EDCI 355 TEACHING AND LEARNING K-12 CLASSROOM<br />
(Class 2, Lab. 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Prerequisite: EDCI 260 and EDPS 285<br />
Acquaints students with general methods of promoting the<br />
learning process in the K-12 school. Topics studied will<br />
include long-term and short-term instructional planning and<br />
evaluation; classroom organization including management,<br />
motivation of students, the use of media to promote instructional<br />
objectives; and individual and group learning procedures.<br />
Students will also study how curriculum goals are<br />
adapted and implemented in the classroom.<br />
EDCI 489 SUPERVISED STUDENT TEACHING<br />

Eight weeks of full time student teaching in an academic<br />
subject pr grade under the supervision of the public school<br />
teachers in charge of the classes and supervisors from university.<br />

Observing and teaching Kindergarten classes under the<br />

HIGH/MIDDLE SCHOOL<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Observation and teaching of a subject in a junior high-middle<br />
school under the supervision of a public school teacher and a<br />
university supervisor.<br />
EDCI 500 FOUNDATION OF LITERACY<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Survey course in the acquisition of and instruction in reading,<br />
writing and other aspect of language.<br />
EDCI 490 INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH<br />
AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE<br />

Opportunity for undergraduate students to investigate particular<br />
problems in the field of education under supervision.<br />
EDCI 491 TOPICS AND ISSUES IN EDUCATION<br />

Provides the student with the opportunity to strengthen the<br />
preparation program though the study of selected educational<br />
topics and issues based on individual needs and interests.<br />
One topic is dealt with in each enrollment.<br />

Admittance to Teacher Education, completion of education<br />
methods courses required for the major area. Teaching fulltime<br />
in a school classroom under the supervision of the<br />
teacher in charge of the class and a university supervisor.<br />
EDCI 498A SUPERVISED TEACHING<br />
IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL<br />
(Class 9, Cr. 9)<br />
Ten weeks of full-time student teaching in elementary school<br />
classrooms under the supervision of the elementary education<br />
staff and public school teachers. Emphasis on preparation<br />
and presentation of major teaching units and full classroom<br />
responsibility.<br />
EDCI 498B SUPERVISED TEACHING OF<br />
SECONDARY SCHOOL SUBJECTS<br />
(Class 6, Cr. 6)<br />
Ten weeks of full-time student teaching in some academic<br />
subject or physical education in secondary schools under<br />
the supervision of the public school teachers in charge of<br />
the high school classes and supervisors from the university.<br />
EDCI 498S SUPERVISED TEACHING:<br />
ALL GRADE EDUCATION<br />
(Class 9, Cr. 9)<br />
Ten weeks of full-time student teaching in media sciences in<br />
an elementary or secondary school under the supervision of a<br />
public school teacher and an appropriate university staff person.<br />
EDCI 499 TEACHING FULL TIME IN AN<br />
ENDORSEMENT AREA IN A SCHOOL<br />
(Class 3 to 9, Cr. 3 to 9)<br />
Full-time student teaching in a classroom under the supervision<br />
of the teacher in charge of the class and a <strong>University</strong><br />
supervisor. Admittance to Teacher Education, Completion of<br />
Education courses required for the Endorsement Area.<br />
EDCI 501 PROBLEMS IN LITERACY ACQUISITION:<br />
EVALUATION AND INSTRUCTION<br />
(Class 2, Lab. 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Prerequisite: EDCI 500<br />
Examines informal and standardized instruments useful for<br />
evaluating students who experience difficulties acquiring<br />
reading, writing, and other aspects of language. Discusses<br />
corrective/remedial instructional strategies appropriate for<br />
the classroom and clinic. Supervised practicum.<br />
EDCI 502 READING IN MIDDLE<br />
AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
A course designed for teachers and prospective teachers in<br />
subject matter areas of the junior and senior high school. May<br />
be taken as part of the sequence leading to Reading Specialist<br />
of or for the Junior High-Middle School endorsement program.<br />
Surveys of techniques and objectives of reading within content<br />
areas. Teaching experience helpful but not required.<br />
EDCI 504 CHILDREN’S LITERATURE<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
A survey of modern and traditional literature for children<br />
including authors and illustrators; guidance in uses of children's<br />
literature in relation to developmental interests, needs<br />
and skills of children; emphasis is on evaluating materials,<br />
reviewing sources and developing discrimination in choosing<br />
children's literature. This course is designed for beginning<br />
graduate students, who plan to be school library/media specialists,<br />
but is available for classroom teachers.<br />
EDCI 511 TEACHING MATHEMATICS<br />
IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL<br />

Historical and current curriculum developments in mathematics<br />
education with implications for classroom practice; analysis<br />
of instructional strategies; cognitive development; use of<br />
research results.<br />
EDCI 513 FOUNDATIONS OF<br />
EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY<br />
(Class 3, Cr. 3)<br />
Provides a historical overview of the field and delineates the<br />
foundational knowledge, skill and attributes needed by professionals<br />
in the field of educational technology and instructional<br />
design. Students explore the field by engaging in collaborative<br />
projects, along with thinking and writing about various aspects<br />
of educational technology and the underlying instructional<br />
design theories.<br />
