4. The national language <strong>of</strong> Grenada shall be English.<br />

5. This Constitution is <strong>the</strong> supreme law <strong>of</strong> Grenada and<br />

any o<strong>the</strong>r law found to be inconsistent with this Constitution is, to<br />

<strong>the</strong> extent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> inconsistency, void.<br />

Declaratory statement<br />

concerning <strong>the</strong><br />

fundamental rights<br />

and freedoms<br />

6.(1) This Constitution acknowledges <strong>the</strong> moral equality<br />

<strong>of</strong> all persons and, in virtue <strong>the</strong>re<strong>of</strong>, every citizen <strong>of</strong> Grenada is<br />

entitled to <strong>the</strong> equal protection and equal benefit <strong>of</strong> all fundamental<br />

rights and freedoms herein declared, without regard to age, colour,<br />

creed, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, place <strong>of</strong> origin,<br />

religious or political belief. Therefore, <strong>the</strong> fundamental rights and<br />

freedoms set out herein are subject only to such limitations as may<br />

be prescribed by law and which can reasonably be justified as<br />

being eminently required in a free and democratic society for <strong>the</strong><br />

protection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fundamental rights, freedoms and interests <strong>of</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>rs or for <strong>the</strong> welfare <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> society or for <strong>the</strong> protection, safety<br />

and security <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> State from imminent danger. It is thus hereby<br />

decreed that every citizen <strong>of</strong> Grenada is entitled to, among o<strong>the</strong>rs,<br />

and consonant with all rights and privileges <strong>of</strong> equal citizenship:<br />

<strong>the</strong> right to life, liberty and security <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> person;<br />

<strong>the</strong> right to privacy;<br />

freedom from arbitrary arrest and from arbitrary<br />

search <strong>of</strong> person and property, and from<br />

arbitrary entry upon premises;<br />
