confidence is passed by <strong>the</strong> majority <strong>of</strong> all<br />

50. The Prime Minister shall keep <strong>the</strong> President fully<br />

informed about <strong>the</strong> general conduct <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Government and furnish<br />

such information with respect to any particular matter relating to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Government as <strong>the</strong> President may request.<br />

51.(1) The President, acting in accordance with <strong>the</strong> advice<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prime Minister, shall appoint Deputy Ministers from<br />

among <strong>the</strong> members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly to assist Ministers in<br />

<strong>the</strong> performance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir duties.<br />

(2) The <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> a Deputy Minister shall become vacant<br />

(a) if <strong>the</strong> President, acting in accordance with<br />

<strong>the</strong> advice <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Prime Minister, so directs;<br />

or<br />

(b) if <strong>the</strong> Prime Minister resigns from <strong>of</strong>fice<br />

within three days after a resolution <strong>of</strong> no<br />

confidence in <strong>the</strong> Government or is removed<br />

from <strong>of</strong>fice by a dissolution <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National<br />

Assembly under Section (32)(2) <strong>of</strong> this<br />

Chapter; or<br />

(c)<br />

if <strong>the</strong> holder <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice ceases to be a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly o<strong>the</strong>r than<br />

by reason <strong>of</strong> a dissolution <strong>of</strong> that House.<br />

(3) A Deputy Minister shall, before entering upon <strong>the</strong><br />

duties <strong>of</strong> that <strong>of</strong>fice, take and subscribe <strong>the</strong> Oaths <strong>of</strong> Allegiance and<br />

<strong>of</strong> Office.<br />

52.(1) There shall be a Leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Opposition who shall<br />

be a directly elected member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly, and <strong>the</strong><br />

leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> political party with <strong>the</strong> second highest number <strong>of</strong> seats<br />

in <strong>the</strong> National Assembly, or <strong>the</strong> person, also a directly elected<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly, who, in <strong>the</strong> judgment <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

President, commands <strong>the</strong> support <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> largest number <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

members <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> National Assembly in opposition to <strong>the</strong><br />

Government.<br />

(2) A person appointed to <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong> Leader <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Opposition shall vacate <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice –<br />

(a) if <strong>the</strong> person ceases to be a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

National Assembly;<br />

(b) if <strong>the</strong> person is elected to <strong>the</strong> Office <strong>of</strong><br />

Speaker or Deputy Speaker;<br />

(c) if <strong>the</strong> person resigns by notice in writing<br />

addressed to <strong>the</strong> President;<br />
