Tack Fitzwater has resigned from Florida<br />

' State Theatres to join Floyd Theatres.<br />

Fitzwater will be in charge of three drive-ins,<br />

the Funland and the Dale-Mabry in Tampa<br />

and the 28th Street in St. Petersburg. These<br />

theatres are owned by Carl Floyd, Pete Sones<br />

State as u.sher at the old Victory Theatre,<br />

Tampa, in 1925. He next went to Miami as<br />

a.ssistant manager of the Community Theatre<br />

in 1931. After that he managed theatres in<br />

Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Jacksonville.<br />

In 1941 he was promoted to position of city<br />

manager of five theatres in Ft. Lauderdale.<br />

In 1947 he was made district manager in the<br />

West Palm Beach to Miami district. In 1950,<br />

Fitzwater became district manager in the<br />

Jack.sonville district, a position he held until<br />

his resignation to take effect January 19.<br />

On January 5, the Brentwood Theatre resumed<br />

weekday matinees. Mrs. Bobbie Farrell<br />

is acting as manager at the Edgewood since<br />

the resignation of Al Fourmet T.<br />

'Charley' Jordan, Warner manager, became<br />

the father of a baby daughter born at St.<br />

Vincent's ho.spital New Year's day . . . Buford<br />

Styles. Universal manager, returned to the<br />

office after attending a district meeting held<br />

in Cincinnati Christmas week. F. J. A. Mc-<br />

Clo key, southern division manager, presided<br />

Roy Smith attended the opening of the new<br />

by Sarra, the Jacksonville Journal<br />

Sports editor Joe Livingston, and Ralph Turlington,<br />

attorney and state representative<br />

from Alachua county.<br />

First Christian Church of Oklahoma City,<br />

made a speech before 700 persons at the<br />

Quarterback club's annual year-end jamboree.<br />

Dr. Alexander was invited to be their principle<br />

.speaker at the suggestion of Sarra<br />

Bud Chalman made a flying trip to Atlanta<br />

and Texas leaving here Wednesday C24) and<br />

returning Sunday (28) Mark Cummins.<br />

Garden Drive-In. St. Petersburg, and C. L.<br />

Jackson, Woodbine Theatre, Woodbine, Ga.,<br />

were visitors.<br />

John Futch, manager of the Beach, reports<br />

that the Christmas kiddies matinee, which<br />

was put on at his theatre, was a huge success.<br />

Spon.sored by the Beach Rotary club, the price<br />

of admi-ssion was a can of food, clothing or<br />

a cash donation to be distributed to the needy<br />

at Christmastime. A truck load of canned<br />

goods was turned over to the Junior Woman's<br />

club for distribution. Futch reports also that<br />

the huge Christmas tree over his marquee<br />

caused a great deal of favorable comment.<br />

Al Fourmet has resigned as manager of the<br />

Edgewood Theatre to become associated with<br />

the Zaun Equipment Co. Fourmet has been<br />

with Florida State Theatres for two years<br />

and in the theatre business for 35 years. Prizes<br />

were awarded to the amatuer finalists December<br />

24. Prizes were a $432 automatic washing<br />

machine, a $109 Cadillac vacuum cleaner<br />

and a $138 power lawnmower.<br />
