Mitigation (repair, replacement, changes, etc.) can then be planned and implemented
prior to the predicted failure date. The reduction in uncertainty and increase in
predictability through inspection translate directly into a better estimate of the probability
of a failure and therefore a reduction in the calculated risk. However, users should be
diligent to assure that temporary inspection alternatives, in lieu of more permanent risk
reductions, are actually effective.
