Ferguson will act as hostess. On Wednesday
(27), Interstate Theatres will play host to
the women at a matinee performance of
•Around the World in 80 Days."
Registration will begin Monday (25) at
1 p.m., and a cocktail party, sponsored by
MPA and others, will be held at 7:30 that
evening.
On Tuesday, social events will include a
luncheon sponsored by Coca-Cola, a 2:30
screening by 20th-Fox for the women and a
7 p.m. cocktail party hosted by Pepsi-Cola.
NEW ORLEANS
^ew Orleans Variety Tent 45 celebrated the
hearts and lace season with a Valentine
party and square dance Saturday evening (9).
About 72 members and guests attended the
light-hearted affair.
In the past 15 months or so, some 125 theatres
have been closed in the New Orleans
film exchange territory. Closures have occurred
in Alabama, Florida, Ai'kansas and
Mississippi, as well as in Louisiana itself.
In town booking recently were Eldon
Llmmroth of Giddens & Rester Theatres,
Mobile, and Richard Guidry of the Jet Drivein
at Cutoff, La. . . . Eddie Kaffenberger of
Paramount has been promoted to booker
from the position of shipper which he had
held for the past two years.
WOMPI members met Tuesday (12) at the
New Orleans Hotel for their monthly luncheon,
which, on this occasion, was followed
by a closed business meeting.
Center at Winston-Salem
Renovated and Reopened
WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. — The Completely
renovated Center Theatre has been
reopened here by Family Cinemas. The house
formerly was the Colonial.
Improvements at the theatre include virtual
reconstruction of the balcony, which will
be reserved for Negro patrons: installation
of new seating, carpeting, curtains and a
widescreen; repainting and installation of a
new front. Manager of the house is Charles
Utley, who came here several months ago
after Family Cinemas pui-chased the old
Colonial.
'Anastasia' Opening Hits

J. O. Biddle Leases House
JASPER, FLA.—James O. Biddle. owner of
the Jasper Fay Theatre, has leased the theatre
in the new Valdosta Castle Park shopping
center and will run it in conjunction
with the Fay Theatre. The Valdosta is a
brand new house and seats 1,000 with ample
parking space in the shopping center.
