A fast-moving merry-go-round for kiddies,
teenagers and adults has been developed
for drive-in playgrounds after
two years of planning and designing by
King Amusement Co., Inc. Of the 28, two
abreast. Fibreglas horses, 20 are full adult
size and eight for kiddies. Each horse is
brilliantly decorated in contrasting colors
and has no protruding legs to break off.
Proper fit and smooth working of aU parts
is assured by the ride being completely assembled
and operated at the factory before
it is shipped. The five-ton ride may be
transported in a 20-foot truck, may be assembled
in 2'2 hours at the drive-in by
three men and occupies a space of 30 feet
in diameter. Select dry lumber is used for
all platforms and sweeps; cross rails and
the foundation are all steel construction.
The ride can be supplied with either gasoline
engine or electric motor.
track fits in a space 110x175 feet, has no
banked turns, is surfaced with two-inch
thick asphalt or equivalent and is usually
located between the screen and the ramps.
The promotion, which attracts a great deal
of publicity, consists of car races between
children seven to 12 years old. Within
each age group, boys and girls are eligible
to compete against one another. Plans call
for racing on city, state and national levels
with prizes given at each level. The contests
are usually sixansored by local newspapers,
Jaycees, Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary,
Elks, P.T.A., churches, schools and other
public spirited groups, since the company
stresses safety with the racing rules, making
skill and alertness as essential as speed.
The cars cannot overturn. They are
the only U. S. junior car selected by the
U. S. Commissioner General's Office and
Committee of Selection and Procurement
(Official U. S. Committee) for exhibit at
the 1958 Brussels World's Pair, the company
states.
is 127 pounds; 200 pounds for the larger
model.
Promotion
P-1697
A business-building promotion for drivein
theatres, that needs a relatively small
area, is offered by The PowerCar Co. The
only requirement for exhibitors is the
purchase of one PowerCar and the construction
of a track according to the standards
of the Junior Crusader National Ass'n.
The PowerCar representative will then promote
a minimum of six new vehicles to
local sponsors, the company says. The
Gaily Painted Hobby Horses P-1698
With Low Maintenance Costs
Individual hobby horses of cast aluminum
on which children can enjoy swinging
back and forth within limits of a sturdy
steel base are being introduced as drive-in
playground equipment by the Allan Herschell
Co. and the Miniature Train Co.
Brightly painted to resemble merry-goround
horses, the hobby horses have immediate
appeal for young theatre patrons.
In situations where the horses have been
set up on a test basis, they quickly became
favorite play equipment. The strong steel
base assures maximum safety and the
horses are said to be durable enough to
last for generations. Absence of maintenance
expense is an outstanding feature
Claims made for products described editorially
on this and other pages are token from the
manufacturers' statements.
TempTaste Bar-B-Q Sauce and Beef, a
high profit sandwich with a record of high
volume, repeat sales in drive-in theatre
test situations, has been introduced by
Greer Enterprises. The year-around item,
especially popular with youngsters, usually
sells for 30 to 35 cents, yet the costs
per sandwich are only 10 cents for the meat
filler and two or three cents for the bun.
Service portions of TempTaste come in
cans, ready for heating and serving. The
meat is said to keep for a week to ten days
after the can has been opened. The allbeef,
sauce-flavored product also has won
quick acceptance in situations where it was
served cold as a big-ticket sandwich filler.
