ALLIED ARTISTS
Dino (AA)—Sal Mlneo, Brian
Keith, Susan Kohner. The teenagers
ate this up and the teenagers
are about all we have left
to get our income from. The rest
stay home and watch the old
pictures on TV. Played Thurs.,
FYi., Sat. Weatlier: Good except
snow on Sat.—M. W. Long, Lans
Theatre, Lansing, Iowa. Pop.
1,400.
Looking for Danger (AA)—
Huntz Hall, Stanley Clements,
Lili Kardell. I thought this was
a little better than series average.
Double-billed this with UA's
"The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown" for
a good dual bill. Played Sun.,
Mon.—S. T. Jackson, Jackson
Theatre, Flomaton, Ala. Pop.
1,036.
BUENA VISTA
Perri (BV)—Dramatic Fantasy.
I think my patrons thought they
had seen this on TV, so we just
didn't do any more than we have
been doing with the regular
change. It was such a good tnieto-life
Disney and we looked for
some extra business, but the extras
were all kids. An adult's
privilege—bring a cai-load (and
what a lot they can cram in a
sedan) and dump them out front,
then come back to pick them up
later. So we get a baby sitting
job on our best pictui-es.—Mayme
P. MusseUnan, Roach Theatre,
Lincoln, Kas. Pop. 1,636.
COLUMBIA
Cockleshell Heroes (Col)—Jose
Ferrer, Trevor Howard, Victor
Maddem. An English war picture,
but one of the best EngUsh
pictures I have seen in a long
time. Comments were good. In
fact, everything was good, but
the audience and it was good
and small. I wouldn't know why.
Played Fri., Sat. Weather: Good.
—Fred L. Murray, Strand Theatre,
Spiritwood, Sask. Pop. 355.
Domino Kid (Col)—Rory Calhoun,
Kristine Miller, Andrew
Duggan. This is a good little
western without color and which
does not have a very good rating.
Had a cartoon and one of Columbia's
good Three Stooges comedies
W'ith it, which made a very
good program. Played Fri., Sat.
Weather: Vei-y good.—B. Berglund,
Ti-ail Theatre, New Town,
N. D. Pop. 1,200.
Hellcats of the Navy (Col)—
Ronald Reagan, Nancy Davis,
Arthur Franz. Good submarine
picture with Ronald Reagan and
fine cast. Reviews on this didn't
give it much, but we liked it.
Lost money on it, and when we
lose on Reagan, something's
wrong.—Frank E. Sabin, Majestic
Theatre, Eureka, Mont. Pop. 929.
Jeanne Eagels (Col)—Kim Novak,
Jeff Cliandler, Agnes Moorehead.
Small towns, beware! This
is morbid, a story of a drunk,
dope and has run its cycle of
entertainment. A new low in entertainment
and boxoffice. Why
in the hell can't they make happy
movies instead of this? Played
Sun., Mon. Weather: Fair.-Ken
Christianson, Roxy Theatre,
Wa-shburn, N. D. Pop. 913.
3:10 to Yuma ( i—Glenn
Ford, Van Heflin, Felicia Farr.
Now here is a very good western.
The story and acting are tops.
As far as business is concerned,
it was in a slump. Glenn Ford
usually draws very well here, but
this time not so good. Played
Sat., Sun. Weather: Cold.—Harry
Hawkiiison. Oi-pheum Theatre,
Marietta, Minn. Pop. 380.
Wants Free Ham
"The Amazing Colossal Man"
was okay and did better business
than any big picture I've
played lately. I think that the
nationally known meat packing
company that got such a big
advertisement in this (on a
meat truck) should send all exhibitors
that play this a free
ham! This picture was used on
Thursday-Friday double bill
with "The Cat Girl," an English-made
minor entry.
S. T. JACKSON
Jackson Theatre
Flomaton, Ala.
METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER
Forbidden Planet (MGM) —
Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis,
Leslie Nielsen. The color in this
picture was the best part. This
is just another science-fiction
pictiu-e, good in its way. but not
adult entertainment. The companies
will have to think up
something more real before they
can hope to make a picture that
will interest the general pubUc.
This one didn't. It drew well
under average. It still is a good
picture, so let us blame the
weather, which was a little cold.
PlayedFri., Sat. Weather: Slightly
cold.—Pi-ed L. Mun-ay, Strand
Theatre, Spiritwood, Sask. Pop.
355.
Man on Fire (MGM)—Bing
Crosby, Inger Stevens, Mai-y
Fickett. If Mr. Crosby would just
happen to have triplets in his
new family and add them to the
other boys it would be just about
as many as we had to see this
show. However, I thought it was
good, but it was a high price to
pay for something I liked. For
some reason, he is just not populai-
here and never did draw, so
I should not have booked it.
Played Wed., Thiu-s. Weather:
Cold.—Joe and Mildred Faith,
Linn Theatre, Limi, Mo. Pop. 758.
PARAMOUNT
Anything Goes (Para)—Bing
Crosby, Donald O'Connor, Jeanmaire.
Here is a good old show.
The color and VistaVLsion are
tops. I suppose that most of you
have played this picture and I
am sure you liked it as well as
I did. Business was off because
of other doings. Played Wed.
Weather: Cold.—Harry Hawkinson,
Orpheum Theatre, Marietta,
Mmn. Pop. 380.
Buster Keaton Story, The
(Para)—Donald O'Connor, Ann
Blyth, Rhonda Fleming. Another
:S.
XHIBITOR HAS HIS SAY
picture of a drunk and his problems
that does not make for entertainment
or boxoffice. Looks
like all "stars" were boozers or
something. Forget this cycle,
please. Played Wed., Fri., Sat.
Weather: Fair.—Ken Christian-
.son. Roxy Theatre, Washburn,
N. D. Pop. 913.
Delicate Delinquent, The
(Para) — Jerry Lewis, Darren
McGavin, Martha Hyer. In black
and white and not much to write
home about. Of course, I cannot
say much, as the weather was
very cold (20 below zero) and I
guess that affected the boxoffice.
—Peter Ubertino, Gayety Theatre,
Brooks, Alta. Pop. 1,648.
For Whom the Bell Tolls
(Pai'ai —Reissue. Gary Cooper,
Ingi-id Bergman, Akim Tamiroff.
A good picture. Thanks, Paramount,
for reissuing it, and I'm
looking forward to more good
ones like this. Did as well as any
of the new product. No one mentioned
it was old or here before.
A classic. Played Wed., Fri., Sat.
Weather: Fall-.—^Ken Christianson,
Roxy Theatre, Washburn,
N. D. Pop. 913.
Hear Me Good (Para)—Hal
March. Joe E. Ross, Merry Anders.
I don't know how we are
going to build back our lost patronage
when the company that
makes "fewer and better" pictures
turns out stuff like this
that half of my small town audience
walked out on. It smeUs!
Played Tues., Wed. Weather:
Beautiful.—M. W. Long, Lans
Theatre, Lansing, Iowa. Pop.
1,400.
REPUBLIC
Spoilers of the Forest (Rep)
Rod Cameron, Vera Ralston, Ray
Collins. This is a real pleasant
little forest story. Just a "B"
picture, but with a dazzling print
it looked more like an "A" than
some of the dingy "As" we've
been shoving at folks. The regulars
loved it. Played Fri, Sat.
Bob Walker, Uintah Theatre,
Fruita, Colo. Pop. 1,463.
20th
CENTURY-FOX
Affair to Remember, A (20th-
Fox) — Cary Grant, Deborah
Kerr, Richard Denning. In my
judgment, very good. To my people,
poison. 'Nough said.—Peter
Ubertino, Gayety Theatre,
Brooks, Alta. Pop. 1,648.
Apache Warrior (20th- Fox)—
Keith Larsen, Jim Davis, Rodolfo
Acosta. If your folks like these
small Regalscope westerns, this
will do okay. I have trouble getting
a suitable featui-e in Cinemascope
to double bUl with
them. I'd rather have standard
ratio color than Regalscope or
Cinemascope in black and white.
Played Sat.—S. T. Jackson, Jackson
Theatre, Flomaton, Ala. Pop.
1,036.
Left Hand of God, The (20th-
Fox)—Humphrey Bogart, Gene
Tiemey, Lee J. Cobb. I have read
reports about this picture which
were not favorable. I cannot
agree with them. This is my version
of the picture: One of the
lABOUT PICTURES
best. If you object to a man playing
priest and making a very
good job then you will not like
the picture, but if you take the
picture just as it Is, you will
enjoy it. I found it beautiful,
color clear and sharp, beautiful
scenei-y and a good story, and
best of all, it drew one of the
best houses I have had in a long
time. That, perhaps, has .something
to do with me liking It.
But, even above that, there were
nothing but good comments from
a large house. Thanks, Fox.
Played Fri., Sat. Weather: Fine.
—Fred L. Muri-ay. Strand Theatre,
Spiritwood, Sa.sk. Pop. 355.
Oklahoma! (20th-Fox) — Gordon
MacRae, Gloria Grahame,
Gene Nelson. Saw this in a nearby
town and predicted it was
not for tiny towns, and it sure
wasn't. At one time we thrived
on good musical programs. Now
they don't pay the light bill, and
this one was terrific. Played
Thurs., Fri, Sat. Weather: Coolish.—Carl
Veseth, Villa Theatre,
Malta, Mont. Pop. 2,095.
Sun Also Rises, The (20th-Fox)
—Tyi'one Power, Ava Gardner,
Mel Ferrer. The di-inking continued
in this picture imtil it was
disgusting. Errol Flynn put on
a pretty good di'unk act, but my
people just don't appreciate this
kind of acting. Zanuck slipped
up on this one. Played Sun.,
Mon.. Tues. Weather: Cold.—Mel
Darmer, Circle Theatre, Waynoka,
Okla. Pop. 2,018.
Wayward Bus, The (20th-Fox)
—Joan Collins, Jayne Mansfield,
Dan Dailey. A big cast from a
best-seller, in black and white
Cinemascope, with a "B" rating
and played during Lent for a
waste of time. Not too bad a
show, but we need better product
than this these days. Midweek
product. Played Sun., Mon.
Weather: Fair.—Ken Christianson.
Roxy Theatre, Washburn,
N. D. Pop. 913.
Make a Buck
"Jet Pilot" is a good picture
that did good business. There is
plenty of flying to suit the kids
and enough romance for the
teenagers and though the story
seems a little weak, it holds
together well enough to be interesting
for everybody. I believe
this will make anybody
who books it a buck.
JOE and MILDRED FAITH
Linn Theatre
Linn, Mo.
UNITED ARTISTS
Bachelor Party, The (UA)—
Don Murray, E. G. Marshall, Jack
Warden. This wasn't too bad, but
I had several complaints and
quite a few walkouts. I still think
this type of picture is no good
for the family audience. See it
before you buy it. Played Thurs.,
Pri.—S. T. Jackson, Jackson Theatre,
Flomaton, Ala. Pop. 1,036.
Drango (UA)—Jeff Chandler,
