the name of the Spencer Community
Antenna System, will apply for a
franchise at the next regular meeting of
the city council here.
Gordon McKinnon of PTC .said that if the
group can get the franchi.se they will install
a 300 to 400-foot tower north or .south of
here. Reception would then improve to 95-100
per cent on channel 4 and to 90 per cent on
channel 9. A contract would have to be
obtained from Northwestern Bell Telephone
Co. to run coaxial cables on the telephone
poles. If the council accepts the idea, it will
be put to the public for a vote. McKinnon
stressed that a vote for the idea would in no
way obligate the voter to become a subscriber
to the service; all he would be doing
is approving the plan.
Depending upon the number of subscribers
to the service, the cost would vary and those
using the service would be billed monthly in
much the same way one is billed for his
telephone sei-vice. McKinnon said the firm
would proceed as rapidly as possible, although
the legal action may take some time. They
hope to put the plan before the voters in a
June election.
