^/pERATiON OF a playground which
includes powered rides as well as the traditional
play equipment in a drive-in, plus
a facility utilized by adults and youngsters
alike, has proved very successful at the
Riverview in Scotia, N. Y., according to
Bob Lamont of Lamont Theatres.
The automobiler's two powered rides, a
ferris wheel and a merry-go-round, have
won such patron acceptance that the Lament
organization is considering the installation
of a train. Decision on the latter
has not yet been made. The ferris wheel
is said to be the only one in an Albany area
ozoner. There are several amusement centers
so equipped. Lamont's Sunset Drivein
at Kingston is equipped with a motorized
merry-go-round, too.
The Riverview playgi'ound, supervised by
Manager Howard Cammer, is fenced
are also fenced off. The "Turnpike," on
which pre-teen youngsters peddle small
cars is tractor-shaped >
surfaced and enclosed.
A high school girl
monitors it.
The playground crew consists of a man
and three high school girls, plus the Riverview's
assistant manager. The latter is assigned
to the area for the hour before showtime.
The man handles the ferris wheel.
One of the girl attendants has been associated
with the drive-in four seasons and
is particularly interested and adept. Lamont
pointed out that the job requires a
certain amount of skill supplemented by
personality
and tact.
