- Weather Flights (Combat Weather Teams) at base level provide tactical-level<br />

terrestrial <strong>and</strong> space weather support. CWTs are experts on how weather <strong>and</strong> the<br />

space environment impact missions <strong>and</strong> weapon systems<br />

> Provide direct support to the customer's mission<br />

> Collocated with warfighters, operators, <strong>and</strong> trainers<br />

> Provide mission execution forecasts (e.g., flight weather briefings)<br />

8.1.5.2 Coordinated Weather Support.<br />

Air Force Weather offers guidance to coordinate weather support to missions involving<br />

more than one unit. Generally, the lead weather unit will be the one supporting the<br />

mission's comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> control element (i.e., the unit closest to the comm<strong>and</strong>er's go/no go<br />

decision). The lead weather unit is responsible for coordinating with all weather units<br />

supporting the operation to ensure a common <strong>and</strong> consistent forecast is used (reference<br />

AFI 15-126 <strong>and</strong> AFMAN 15-126).<br />

Notes:<br />

1. If the lead wx unit or a coordination process is not defined, use the guidance in<br />

Rules 2-9 to determine the lead weather unit.<br />

2. Rules for missions with Special Operations Forces (SOF):<br />

a. When SOF operate with conventional forces under a CINC's control, the<br />

lead weather unit is determined using rules 1-8. SOF should use the Mission<br />

Control Forecast (MCF) <strong>and</strong> appropriate OWS products.<br />

b. SOF operating solely within SOF channels, will use their st<strong>and</strong>ard theater<br />

support.<br />
