10.1.2.2 FMF METOC Comm<strong>and</strong> Relationships <strong>and</strong> Responsibilities.<br />
• MEF Staff Weather Officer (SWO). Each MEF has established staff billets for 1<br />
Weather Officer <strong>and</strong> 1 Weather Forecaster. These Marines serve in the G-2 section<br />
under the cognizance of the Intelligence Operations Officer <strong>and</strong> provide METOC<br />
support to the MEF Comm<strong>and</strong>ing General <strong>and</strong> his staff. As such, they serve as the<br />
Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all METOC related issues, ensuring that relevant,<br />
timely <strong>and</strong> accurate METOC support is provided throughout the MAGTF.<br />
Additionally, the MEF SWO maintains liaison with other Service counter-parts <strong>and</strong><br />
represents the Comm<strong>and</strong>ing General at <strong>Joint</strong> Service METOC meetings.<br />
• Marine Wing Support Group (MWSG) Weather Officer. The MWSG Weather Officer<br />
is the senior Weather Officer within the Marine Air Wing (MAW), responsible for<br />
coordinating all METOC personnel <strong>and</strong> assets to meet support requirements validated<br />
by higher HQ, to include METOC training within the MAW. Additionally, the MWSG<br />
Weather Officer serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all METOC related<br />
issues for the MAW.<br />
• Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) Weather Element. The MWSS Weather<br />
Element is the primary source for METOC support. Manning at the MWSS consists of<br />
1 officer, 5 forecasters, 10 observers, <strong>and</strong> 3 meteorological equipment technicians.<br />
Odd numbered MWSSs are designated as fixed wing support squadrons <strong>and</strong> have an<br />
