• Structure. Numbered Fleet or Battlegroup Oceanographer. The JFMCC METOC cell<br />

is typically embarked in the NAVFOR's flagship, though it may be ashore, if the<br />

JFMCC is ashore.<br />

• Relationship. In a large JTF, a SOF METOC liaison officer or senior NCO may be<br />

assigned, reporting to Maritime Component Comm<strong>and</strong>er (MCC) N-3<br />

• Assets<br />

- Carrier (CV) <strong>and</strong> large-deck amphibious (LHD/LHA/LPH) OA divisions or<br />

comm<strong>and</strong> ship OA division<br />

- Mobile Environmental Teams<br />

- Marine Theater Support from NAVMETOCCEN (Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, Rota)<br />

• Roles <strong>and</strong> Responsibilities<br />

- OPTASK METOC (optional DMS message)<br />

> Combination of Annex H (METOC Operations) <strong>and</strong> a Letter of Instruction,<br />

detailing METOC relationships within the Battle Group <strong>and</strong> reoccurring<br />

procedures <strong>and</strong> requirements while the Battle Group is operating<br />
