3-JTF HQ METOC Support<br />

3.2.2 Potential METOC Support Requirements to the JTF Headquarters.<br />

The JMO, or his representative, should visit each of the elements within the JTF<br />

headquarters to determine METOC support requirements. This section highlights the roles<br />

of the various JTF J-codes <strong>and</strong> boards <strong>and</strong> centers, <strong>and</strong> potential METOC support required<br />

by each.<br />

3.2.2.1 J1/JIB (Personnel/<strong>Joint</strong> Information Bureau).<br />

Daily forecasts.<br />

3.2.2.2 J-2/JIC (Intelligence/<strong>Joint</strong> Intelligence Center).<br />

• Assets<br />

- <strong>Joint</strong> Deployable Intelligence Support System (JDISS)<br />

- National Technical Means (NTM) imagery analysis from Naval Oceanographic<br />

Office<br />

- Ability (through CINC) to task National collection assets as required<br />

- Global Comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Control System (GCCS)<br />

• Roles <strong>and</strong> Responsibilities<br />

- Provide METOC Essential Elements of Information (EEIs) during mission<br />

planning phase<br />

- JMO SCI access, possibly SPECAT access, required<br />

- Monitor spot reports for directly-reported or implied weather data/impacts<br />

- Provide METOC input to INTSUM<br />

• METOC Requirements<br />

- Briefings<br />

- Collection management impacts (cloud-free forecasts, etc.)<br />

- IPB (friendly <strong>and</strong> enemy impacts to operations)<br />

3.2.2.3 J-3/JOC (Operations/<strong>Joint</strong> Operations Center).<br />

• Provide 24-hour watch personnel in the JOC<br />

• Prepare <strong>and</strong> present briefings<br />

• Warfighting impacts<br />

• 0-24 hour (short range) planning forecasts. Focused on situational awareness - what is<br />

going on now <strong>and</strong> in the near future, <strong>and</strong> the impact upon ongoing operations<br />

• 24-XX hour (long range) planning forecasts<br />

• Answer METOC Requests for Information (RFIs)--generate RFIs when required<br />

• Contribute to or manage the Common Operational Picture (COP) on GCCS<br />

• Participate in collaborative planning as required<br />
