POLICY IMPLICATIONS
Council has a responsibility to maintain assets and public open space. Council recently
received title to the Frederick Street Reserve from the State Government and therefore
has a greater responsibility for its care.
Council also has an existing By-Law Public Reserves By Law No 5 of 2003, that provides
requirement for the use of public reserves.
FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS
Council in the absence of the offer from Wynyard BMX Park, would need to undertake
remedial work at the former BMX site at considerable expense. The track sits within
remnant bushland which is encroaching on it.
RISK IMPLICATIONS
If left to deteriorate the site will pose risks to casual users who include: horse riders,
motor cyclists, dog walkers and BMX cyclists.
