Low Power FM radio station <strong>in</strong> the community, which broadcasts <strong>in</strong><br />

sheila nopper has been a community radio DJ, <strong>in</strong>terviewer and<br />
documentary producer at CIUT <strong>in</strong> Toronto, and a correspondent for<br />
CBC’s Glob<strong>al</strong> Village. While liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Ill<strong>in</strong>ois, she founded the Media<br />
Activist Co<strong>al</strong>ition, and produced Grrrrl <strong>Radio</strong>, a live broadcast on the<br />
education<strong>al</strong> station WQNA featur<strong>in</strong>g girls aged 8–14. She has an MA<br />
<strong>in</strong> Media and Cultur<strong>al</strong> Activism, and has written for such publications<br />
as Herizons, Fifth Estate, Ill<strong>in</strong>ois Times and The Beat, as well as be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
featured <strong>in</strong> the anthology, Seiz<strong>in</strong>g the Airwaves: A Free <strong>Radio</strong> Handbook.<br />
She currently broadcasts the show freedom soundz on a pirate<br />
radio station she co-founded five years ago <strong>in</strong> rur<strong>al</strong> BC.<br />
kristen roos is a sound artist currently based <strong>in</strong> Vancouver. His<br />
work has been exhibited/performed <strong>in</strong> artist-run centres and festiv<strong>al</strong>s<br />
nation<strong>al</strong>ly, as well as be<strong>in</strong>g featured <strong>in</strong> the Errant Bodies publication<br />
<strong>Radio</strong> Territories. Kristen compl<strong>et</strong>ed a BFA at Concordia University<br />

andrea langlois has been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> autonomous media for<br />
<strong>al</strong>most ten years. <strong>Andrea</strong> was an active member <strong>of</strong> the Indymedia<br />
movement (CMAQ.n<strong>et</strong>) for sever<strong>al</strong> years, and her voice has sailed the<br />
airwaves on many stations, from Montre<strong>al</strong>’s CKUT, to Nelson’s CJLY,<br />
and has been wild and free dur<strong>in</strong>g many pirate radio broadcasts.<br />
Autonomous Media: Activat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Resistance</strong> and Dissent (Cumulus,<br />
2005), the book she co-edited with Frédéric Dubois, documents uses<br />
<strong>of</strong> media by soci<strong>al</strong> justice movements <strong>in</strong> <strong>Canada</strong>; it was published <strong>in</strong><br />
French translation by Lux Éditeur <strong>in</strong> 2006. She works <strong>in</strong> communications<br />
<strong>in</strong> Victoria, BC, and is the editor <strong>of</strong> the quarterly magaz<strong>in</strong>e BC<br />
Organic Grower.<br />
