Where it did not prove possible to elicit further data <strong>in</strong> the case<br />

of exist<strong>in</strong>g case studies and where there was a sufficient but<br />

limited amount of data for new case studies, synoptic case<br />

studies were written. Extended case studies were organized<br />

accord<strong>in</strong>g to the follow<strong>in</strong>g head<strong>in</strong>gs:<br />

Eastern and Southern Africa: Angola, Lesotho, Madagascar,<br />

Malawi<br />

Industrialized Countries: France, Japan, New Zealand<br />

Lat<strong>in</strong> America and the Caribbean: British Virg<strong>in</strong> Islands, Chile,<br />

Costa Rica, Cuba, Nicaragua, Peru<br />

Middle East and North Africa: Egypt<br />

South Asia: Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal<br />

West and Central Africa: Ben<strong>in</strong>, Nigeria<br />

The review and annotation of DRR-related education literature<br />

forms the Annex to the <strong>in</strong>ternal version of this document.<br />

The case studies as well as the literature reviewed have been<br />

drawn upon <strong>in</strong> writ<strong>in</strong>g the commentary chapters (Sections 3-9).<br />

In order to summarize the f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs, a checklist for the <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

of DRR <strong>in</strong>to school curricula (Section 11) is offered.<br />
