Turkey<br />

last day of school and Yaprak is wear<strong>in</strong>g a red velvet dress to<br />
celebrate. The 'child-friendly' school offers a free education<br />
to local pupils (all the girls of the village are enrolled), as well<br />
as boarders, many of whom are orphans or otherwise at risk.<br />
Child-friendly schools promote free, compulsory education for<br />
all children <strong>in</strong> a safe, clean learn<strong>in</strong>g environment that respects<br />
diversity and the rights of the child. Yaprak's father works for a<br />
local landowner <strong>in</strong> exchange for a house and a small stipend.<br />
