No Longer a Slumdog<br />
months and even years pass, and I don’t realize how quickly they<br />
have gone.<br />
Please don’t get so involved in today’s trivia that you forget<br />
eternity awaits us all. Keep in mind those who are captive in the<br />
worst sort of prisons because, “I tell you the truth, whatever you<br />
did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for<br />
me” (Matthew 25:40). The opposite is also true: “Whatever you<br />
did <strong>no</strong>t do for one of the least of these, you did <strong>no</strong>t do for me”<br />
(Matthew 25:45).<br />
It is for Jesus’ sake that we act. It is in His name that we sacrifice.<br />
Together, you and I, we can make dreams come true for precious<br />
children. We can and we must.<br />
One of the earlier memories of my college days in the United<br />
States is about a television show starring George Burns. He<br />
looked old, really old. He wore these round glasses like Gandhi,<br />
whom I respect so much. He was always puffing a cigar in between<br />
his stories and songs.<br />
There was something about him that I just liked. One thing<br />
was this song he sang, and he did it often. A few words really<br />
stuck with me, “I wish I was 18 again.” (You can probably hear it<br />
on YouTube.) 3<br />
When the Lord called me to serve Him, I was barely 16! I<br />
was living in a tiny village in a small state at the southern tip of<br />
India. Today, as I am writing these lines, I am 60! And I think to<br />
myself, “Whatever happened to time” It kind of feels like it was<br />
yesterday when I left my home, traveling 2,000 miles to <strong>no</strong>rthern<br />
India to serve the Lord.<br />
How did time slip by so fast . . . I don’t k<strong>no</strong>w!<br />
Along with George Burns, I too feel like singing, “I wish I<br />
