No Longer a Slumdog<br />
Millions are trapped by their caste, stuck in the mindset that things can<strong>no</strong>t change and<br />
will <strong>no</strong>t change.<br />
<strong>no</strong>thing better for them, that there is <strong>no</strong> hope of change or freedom.<br />
For them, it does feel that their fate truly is “once a <strong>slumdog</strong>,<br />
always a <strong>slumdog</strong>.”<br />
Niran John Das grew up living in this as reality, until one day<br />
everything changed.<br />
I was born and brought up in a Dalit society<br />
where we were very much oppressed and downtrodden<br />
by the higher people. There are a lot of people<br />
who practice untouchability here, who won’t share a<br />
bench with someone from a low caste or share food<br />
with them or anything.<br />
I went to school up to third grade, but I had to<br />
