Believe It or Not<br />

The 4/14 Window are children between the ages of 4<br />

and 14. These are the critical years when a child’s character and<br />

worldview are molded. 1<br />

➛ 1.2 billion children worldwide are in the 4/14 Window. 2<br />

➛ More than 300 million children—one-fourth of the<br />

entire 4/14 Window—live in the South Asian countries<br />

of India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka. 3<br />

➛ If these South Asian children formed their own<br />

nation, its population would be as large as the United<br />

States.<br />

Child labor standards have been established by the United<br />

Nations to protect children from exploitation in the workplace.<br />

➛ 150 million of the 4/14 Window are child laborers, employed<br />

in violation of these standards. 4<br />

➛ 60 percent of these child laborers are 11 years or<br />

younger. 5<br />

➛ More than 50 million children are in “hazardous<br />

work” involving long hours; physical, psychological
