No Longer a Slumdog<br />

but also for help and love and hope . . . yet they can’t find any.<br />

I certainly don’t want anyone to feel guilty about lovingly<br />

caring for our own children and grandchildren. But the question<br />

remains: Is there also room in our hearts for one or two of the<br />

world’s millions of suffering children, and can we also care for<br />

them in Jesus’ name Can we see them as Jesus does, so special to<br />

Him, their worth like jewels beyond compare<br />

Are we willing to have our hearts break with His at such<br />

sights, k<strong>no</strong>wing these are children who suffer so much in this<br />

life and have <strong>no</strong> hope of heaven in the next, simply because they<br />

k<strong>no</strong>w <strong>no</strong>thing of the hope that is in Christ<br />

I believe, as followers of Christ, we are commanded to reach<br />

out to the least of these in the name of Jesus and show them they<br />

matter a great deal to God, who sacrificed His only Son to reach<br />

them with His love.<br />

We must learn to look away from our own worlds to care for<br />

what God cares about. Let’s <strong>no</strong>t devote our energies into trinkets<br />

and mindless self-indulgence that have <strong>no</strong> eternal value, but instead<br />

learn to invest in these children God cares about so much.<br />

They truly are the least of the least—the ig<strong>no</strong>red, unfed, abused<br />

and unloved. And we are told by our Lord that we can<strong>no</strong>t turn a<br />

blind eye to their plight.<br />

Special Assignment<br />

Our Father in heaven is greatly concerned about the welfare<br />

of these helpless children. In fact, God has special angels assigned<br />

to watch over them at all times. Let us look again at Matthew<br />

18:10 (nasb): “See that you do <strong>no</strong>t despise one of these little<br />
