In every GFA Bridge of Hope center, each child has the opportunity to hear and understand how treasured he or she is in the eyes of God. Pray for your child’s adjustment to the GFA Bridge of Hope center. For many of the children, this is the first time they’ve ever attended school. Pray for a supportive family and community. The initial response from parents could be negative, but over time, most fathers and mothers usually express sincere gratitude. Pray for the Lord’s will to be accomplished in each of these lives and that they will become an instrument of blessings to many. Pray for a spiritual breakthrough all across Asia. Be convinced that these children and the Dalits are on God’s heart and that He is ready to answer our prayers if we but ask Him. 144
appendix i: frequently asked questions How do you choose which children to enroll in GFA Bridge of Hope One of the hardest things to witness is the large number of little boys and girls looking into our GFA Bridge of Hope centers wanting to be involved, but unable to join. Selection is primarily based on the needs of the children and on the prayers of our staff members. The hardest part is turning down child after child and seeing them suffer without firsthand contact with the love of the Lord. Honestly, there are so many children out there who need our help. One of the biggest requests from our leaders on the mission field is, “Can we please open up more centers There are so many children here who need our help.” As we have the resources, we proceed with opening more centers. But there are so many times I have to tell our leaders “not yet.” Selection is a painful process, but the staff at the centers, in partnership with the pastors of the local churches, pray through the needs of the children and the community. They reach out to all they can. What is a typical day like for a GFA Bridge of Hope child Monday through Friday, the children are educated in all the subjects relevant to their age group. We have a holistic approach. Instead of focusing entirely on increasing the knowledge of the children or simply improving their physical health, GFA Bridge of Hope invests in their overall development. In the afternoon, the teachers and staff help our students individually with the subjects they were taught in the morning. There are opportunities for them to practice their mathematics, science and arts. Reading and writing are two major skills every child learns at a GFA Bridge of Hope center. These are 145
