The amount of intelligence information available to the scout platoon leader during the planning process will<br />

determine the risk involved in conducting the infiltration. As he plans the operation, the platoon leader must select<br />

appropriate routes and movement techniques based on the mission, terrain and weather, likelihood of enemy contact,<br />

speed of movement, and the depth to which the platoon’s elements must penetrate. Once these factors have been<br />

considered, the platoon leader must make the decision to infiltrate either mounted or dismounted. Even if he decides<br />

the platoon can conduct a mounted infiltration, his plan must take into account that the situation may require scouts to<br />

dismount and reconnoiter an area before the vehicles move forward. The platoon leader’s infiltration plan must<br />

provide platoon elements with enough time for preparation and initial movement.<br />

The platoon leader must conduct detailed coordination with any friendly elements through which the platoon will pass
