The Buccaneer Newspaper – the Barry Buccaneer is the student newspaper, ranging from 8-
16 pages and published at the first of every month starting in September and ending with May.
The Buccaneer serves as a laboratory for the journalism minors. All work, including writing,
editing, advertising and design, is completed by students.
WBRY Radio Station – to provide training in broadcasting for students and to educate and
inform the Barry campus about alternative music and educational broadcasting.
SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS
Best Buddies Organization – a college-based volunteer program designed to promote very
special friendships between university students and persons with mental retardation.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – TO ENLIST BARRY STUDENTS IN HELPING TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE
HOUSING TO THE WORKING POOR OF THE GREATER MIAMI-DADE AND BROWARD COUNTY AND
TO HELP STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BARRY AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY.
GREEK ORGANIZATIONS
Alpha Delta Gamma Fraternity – each ADG member is provided with the opportunity to
reach his full potential through the five S’s: community services, scholarship, spirituality,
school spirit and social events. ADG’s strive for a common goal of true and loyal friendship,
even beyond their college years. The Psi Chapter of Alpha Delta Gamma has been a strong
force on the Barry University campus for five years.
Alpha Gamma Delta International Sorority – the Alpha Gamma Delta purpose guides the
organization, highlighting understanding, wisdom, friendship, community service and high
ideals and the principles for all members to embrace. Chartered in March of 1998, the Theta
Rho chapter was awarded the Chapter of the Year and Highest Chapter GPA recognition for
both the 1998 – 1999 and 1999 - 2000 academic years.
Alpha Phi International Sorority – as symbolized by their motto, “Union Hand in Hand,”
Alpha Phi’s on campus and across the country share the same treasured collection of values
and the same timeless bond of friendship. The Theta Omega chapter has been active for over
three years, receiving their charter in May, 1996. In 1998 Alpha Phi was recognized as the
1997 – 1998 Chapter of the Year.
Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity – Phi Tau values a spectrum of diversity: differing cultural and
ethnic backgrounds, a full range of academic, professional and personal interests, a variety of
ambitions, and a host of talents. The Epsilon Iota Chapter of Phi Kappa Tau has been
contributing to the Barry University campus and local community for six years and continues
their commitment to excellence.
Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity – the fraternity is committed to the principles of scholarship,
community service, leadership, friendship and physical well being. The TKE colony at Barry
University was founded in the fall of 1996 by men from 11 different countries. Their focus is
on diversity and unity, with the goal of promoting multi-cultural issues and cultural awareness.
